It seems everybody is aware that we do not have ANY Satsumas this year ! The Satsuma crop was looking good the first of March, so we fertilized ,expecting a great crop year. Then 24 degree weather hit in mid -March and, with the freeze protection operating , but the vast majority of the foliage on the trees was frozen and destroyed due to all the new and extremely vulnerable new leaves on the trees. Consequently , instead of the trees producing buds and blooms they shifted to survival mode to produce foliage and there were no blooms to produce fruit !
We have removed the trees that were killed by the freeze and removing the dead branches on the surviving trees.
We are optimistic and expecting an good Satsuma year next year, don’t forget about us next Satsuma Season !!

Satsuma Season has arrived! The juice is a bit tart but out standing flavor and color! We should start picking and bagging in 2 to 3 weeks ! Looking forward to a great season !!

due to a major loss of Blackberry bushes out U-Pick operation has been greatly reduced this year. We are rebuilding and will be ready for U-Pick next year. However, on a positive note, Joe and Lynette Whitfield at White Chapel Farms about 1 mile north of Carriere, Ms. have thornless erect Blackberries that are about ready to be picked. Blackberry Season was a success !! Although, a bit too warm for Blackberries and a bit wet also. We are looking forward to Satsuma season!! We were concerned with the freeze we had earlier this year and thought it may have an impact on the Satsuma crop. But it appears it will be a decent year for production. After the freeze the Meyer Lemon trees lost all their leaves and the Satsuma trees lost 30% to 40% of their leaves and it was a bit disheartening to see. The trees, for the most part, have recovered and are looking good.
Looking forward to October and Satsuma Season !!
