COMMUNITY UPDATE FROM DIRECTOR THERESA LAVENDER
As Meigs County Public Transit continues to grow, we receive questions about our services and operations. We welcome those questions and are committed to being responsive and transparent about how our transit system operates, how it is funded and how community partnerships support the services we provide.
We are incredibly proud of the progress MCPT has made in a relatively short time. During the past year, we provided 13,600 rides:
• 8,217 rides within Meigs County
• 5,383 rides outside Meigs County
Behind every ride is a person reaching an important destination,
whether for medical care, employment, education, shopping or another essential need.
Our in-county transportation is currently provided at no cost to the rider. However, every ride has an operating cost. Federal and state funding supports our system but requires local matching funds. Our contracts and partnerships help provide those funds, support out-of-county trips and allow us to continue offering in-county transportation at no cost to riders. When we are unable to accommodate an out-of-county transportation request, we document that unmet need. This data helps us identify service gaps, demonstrate the demand for additional transportation and strengthen our efforts to secure new partnerships and contracts.
MCPT is still a relatively new system, and we are proud of the strong foundation we have built. We know gaps remain, but we are actively working to fill them and expand transportation opportunities for our residents.
We are proud of how far Meigs County Public Transit has come, grateful for the partnerships that have helped make it possible and excited to build upon that progress.
