Please try to find and watch a Mike Rowe interview on Newsmax episode 74 on Chris Coumo’s show. It is an excellent discussion on the topic mportance of recognizing trades skills versus the important of 4 year college degrees. It reports the great wages that can be made and how many become entrepreneurs themselves. I know this because I have had a great career supporting great drivers, mechanics and othe skilled tradesmen over the past 53 years. I am also proud I have been willing to convince most customers the importance of supporting these folks so my company can support the good wages and benefits they deserve.
I really enjoy Mike Rowe and enjoyed his book and his Dirty Jobs TV show.

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow Active USA team members. As many of you have heard me say during my visits to your terminals I am thankful for the career I have had thanks to the hard work all the Teamsters and staff workers have done over the years. I am also thankful to our customers PACCAR, Kenworth and Peterbilt for the support of our company for decades. I hope to see you all soon and as always I am thankful to all of my long term friends who reach out to me by phone, text and even social media.

In the transportation industry, it is easy to lose track of time. I would encourage each of you to take a step back and to reflect on your efforts for the past year. While we all know this, our jobs and tasks help an uncountable number of people in being able to provide the infrastructure for our country. Our job enables the supply chain for North America to provide goods to people that need them. These goods can be clothes to keep individuals warm or medicine for those with life threatening illnesses. This supply chain is powered by the units that we move. Your job and career is of utmost importance not only to our way of life but also to the general public. Thank you all for your dedication and support and sacrifices. May you all have a peaceful, blessed Thanksgiving, knowing that the work you do is valued, and makes a vital difference in the world around us.

Congratulations to Brad Bugg and Bill Carlone for achieving an astounding milestone in their career. They have both achieved 2 MILLION miles accident free! We have only had a few ever to meet this milestone in the past and while they are retired- we still need to give them the recognition that they deserve after these years in the company’s history. The names of the retirees that achieved this were JR Jett and Fred Teeter. For those newer into the industry, this milestone is an accomplishment that most do not have the honors to brag about. It just is unheard of and very challenging to do so.

Brad and Bill both are exemplary employees in safety and we would urge all of Active employees to talk to them and get some insight as to how they have achieved this milestone. We, as a team, can learn a lot from these gentlemen. The largest distinction when talking with Brad and Bill are how seriously both take safety when completing their tasks at hand. Both Brad and Bill take almost the same approach when they are out on the road. When discussing their tactics on achieving 2 million miles accident free, they state that the 4-letter word, TIME, in transportation is the easiest catalyst that could be the difference between a safe trip or a catastrophic incident. Brad and Bill both absolutely refuse to let time constraints or what is going around them dictate that they take shortcuts on safety. Each and every trip, they take the necessary precautions of performing thorough safety checks while not making bad decisions due to time. They focus on the present minute to deliver a truck that is in pristine condition to our customers. In the end, both Brad and Bill state that this is core of what we do is to maintain the brand for Active as being a safe and quality carrier for our customer, Paccar and the dealer groups.

Active would like to thank both Brad and Bill and show our appreciation with a paid vacation and a week of pay outside of their allotted vacation for their many years of service and outstanding safety record.

It is with such a heavy heart that we share the sad news of Kenny Wright’s passing on the evening of August 1, 2023. Making a few short comments can never express the love and respect we carried in our hearts for Kenny. Kenny was one of those people who lead by his presence; a man of few words, but words that left a heartfelt impression. Kenny was employed with Active 10 years, but served his country, in the Army, over 25 years with numerous deployments – a Staff Sergeant of the 1001st Quartermaster Company. Comments by Kenny’s comrades expressed that Kenny was the best NCO ever, a great man! All of us would agree – Kenny was a great man who influenced many. One statement I recall Kenny saying often to others, “If you need anything let me know.” Kenny may be gone physically, but he will forever be within our hearts. Our deepest sympathies to Kenny’s family and other loved ones.

While Active respects drivers who wish to operate as independent contractors there are a few items we want to bring to your attention:
1. The business is cyclical. Our employees’ work will always be protected first
2. You may not feel you need our top of the line totally company paid health care until you and someone in your family needs it.
3. Our drivers sleep in a motel every night. And if you are haling KW or PB you are not permitted to sleep in the truck and if you do you can be banned from hauling KW and PB in the future. And you must pay for your motel.
4. Our drivers mostly fly home. active pays for the ticket and the driver keeps the miles. When it makes more sense Active will rent a car to get you home and pay you to drive it.
5. Active pays for all fuel, DEF, permits, wrecker undecking fees if needed.
6. Active also pays for your Uber to get you to the airport and then back to the terminal.
7. At the end of your career you will have earned a fully company paid pension.

The senior staff of Active USA is meeting with representatives of the IBT for a new collective bargaining agreement. While this is extremely important to all of us my colleague Chris Anderson reminded me of the importance of remembering those who served and lost their lives to protect our freedom. Thank you Chris.

I just wanted to thank you all for your service to our great country. I know I am missing some names and for that I apologize.
I personally think of Memorial Day as a time to reflect for all those have served, currently serving and most importantly those who gave their lives so that we can enjoy are freedom.
Today is not about getting a day off work, grilling, watching sports or drinking a cold beer, it's about remembrance.
As I attend the contract negotiations today, my only regret is not being able fly the flag in observance of Memorial Day. My new flag pole will have to wait a few more days before I can hoist old glory. When I do, I will have all those who have served in my heart.
