A Clean Start had an amazing time being a part of the Alzheimer’s Walk in Joliet yesterday. It was incredible to look around and see everyone who has been impacted by the disease and in so many different ways. Whether it’s our own family members, friends, clients, etc we all know someone who is impacted by this. Hopefully we can raise more awareness and make it an even bigger and better walk next year! 💜

Your aging parent probably doesn’t realize they’re getting old… because they don’t feel old.

They remember a lifetime of doing everything on their own. Driving wherever they wanted, taking care of their home, making their own decisions, and never thinking twice about whether they could handle something.

They may look at other people their age and think, “They’re getting old,” without ever seeing themselves the same way.

So when you start offering help or suggesting things need to change, remember:

Aging in place can be a wonderful option as long as home continues to be a safe place to age.

But as we get older, keeping up with the house can become harder than it used to be. Sometimes things simply get away from us, and before anyone realizes it, the home needs more than a regular cleaning.

While A Clean Start doesn’t provide routine housekeeping, we do provide extensive deep cleans when a home has been neglected for a little too long.

If you’re moving a parent with dementia, the hardest part may not be packing the boxes. It may be helping them feel safe when their surroundings suddenly change.

A familiar chair, the way their bedroom is arranged, or a daily routine can mean more than you realize. Even when a move is necessary, your parent may not understand why it’s happening. They may ask to go home, resist help, or feel overwhelmed by all the activity around them.

That doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It means the move needs patience, planning, and people who understand that your parent is more than a moving checklist.
