A patriotic visitor touched down at PIT this week. 👀✈️

United America250 'Stars and Stripes' livery is flying select routes across the country — and PIT was one of its stops. With its bold red, white and blue design, the aircraft also includes a small nod to United’s commitment to hiring military pilots.

We're happy to be on its list of stops. 💙❤️

Pittsburgh’s aviation future continues to grow — powered by local students, educators, and industry partners working together. ✈️🤝

American Airlines and the PIA - Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics
have launched a new partnership that helps train the next generation of aircraft maintenance technicians — creating clear pathways for students to build long‑term careers in a growing field.

Through this collaboration, PIA students will get hands‑on experience with American’s maintenance team, including tours and real‑world learning at the airline’s PIT maintenance base. When they graduate, top students will receive guaranteed interviews for open roles with American, connecting classroom training directly to career opportunities.

This partnership supports a rapidly expanding aviation workforce at PIT — where American’s maintenance base has doubled in just the last few years. It also strengthens the region’s pipeline of skilled technicians who keep aircraft safe, reliable and ready to fly.

Happy National Aviation Day! 🛬 Today, we’re taking a quick trip through Pittsburgh’s aviation story — from the early days of flight to the brand-new PIT terminal opening in 2025.

Allegheny County Airport (AGC) kicked things off in 1931. At its dedication, AGC was the nation’s only hard-surface airport and ranked among the largest airports in the United States. AGC is still buzzing today with corporate travel, flight training, air medical services and more.

Then came Greater Pittsburgh Airport in 1952, bringing commercial air travel to our growing region. In 1992, PIT’s midfield terminal opened and changed the way travelers moved through the airport.

And in 2025, we celebrated the opening of the transformed PIT — a modern, welcoming terminal designed with Pittsburghers in mind and built with more than 90% local labor.

It’s been almost a century of aviation milestones, and we’re just getting started. ✔️

Celebrating our newest PIT2Work graduates! 👷🎉

Fifteen Allegheny County residents completed our five‑week PIT2Work pre‑apprenticeship program — a hands‑on pathway into high‑demand careers across the skilled trades. This cohort reflects a reimagined PIT2Work, now supporting the long‑term success of the new terminal through predictive and preventative maintenance and building systems training.

Graduate Antionese shared: “I made the commitment to myself that I was going to show up and show my children to finish something that you want to start.” Justin, another graduate, said the program “changed [his] life” and set him on the path to becoming an operating engineer.

We’re proud of every graduate — and excited to see the future you’re building. 💛✈️
