Frank and Louise Boulineau opened a small family grocery store in the Cherry Grove community of North Myrtle Beach in 1948 when the area had fewer than one hundred houses. They created a welcoming spot that blended store operations with family living space and quickly became important to early residents and beach visitors. Hurricane Hazel destroyed the original store in 1954 along with much of Cherry Grove yet the family rebuilt with remarkable resilience and kept serving the recovering coast. Their son Frank Boulineau the third along with his wife Elizabeth took over in the late nineteen sixties and guided decades of steady expansion that transformed the modest start into the expansive shopping village known today as Boulineau’s IGA Foods Plus.
