Just a reminder, for most of the country Daylight Savings Time begins at 2am. Don't forget to adjust hour clocks ahead 1 hour accordingly! and yes, you still need a full 10 or 34 actual hours off duty to make it count. 😉

Brake Safety Week starts today and lasts until Saturday. Make sure to do your pre/post- trip inspections, have all of your up to date credentials, and keep your hours of service in order.

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) shared brake inspection tips to help truckers prepare for Brake Safety Week in August.

This is just a reminder that the CVSA Roadcheck starts TOMORROW and will run May 14 - May 16. The DOT will be checking for drug and alcohol violations, and tractor protection systems during Level 1 inspections.

While officers will not be performing drug testing during roadsides, they will be checking for violations, suspected impairment, and the Federal Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse. If impairment is suspected, authorities are able to conduct further testing.

Do a proper pre/post-trip inspection each day you drive, and make safety your guide, every time!

School is back in session! If you have not already seen them, yellow buses with flashing red lights, students darting from between cars, people walking along the side of road, and parents trying to navigate new roads will be a part of your morning and afternoon commute. Please allow for extra travel time, remember to follow posted school zone speed limits, and slow down any time you are near a school or bus stop. Children can be unpredictable, so let's keep alert on the road.

Ready, set, BRAKE! Starting this Sunday Aug 20th DOT officers will be conducting more Level 1 inspections until Sat Aug 26th with a focus on braking components. Take this time to fully inspect your brakes, slack adjusters, drums and hoses to make sure there are no defects. While you are at it check your lights, emergency equipment, fuses and securement devices. You can never be too careful when it comes to safety.
Remember, even if your equipment is maintained in pristine condition, you still need to practice safe defensive driving techniques.

Operation Safe Driver Week is not just for Professional Drivers. Law Enforcement across the country will be on the lookout for unsafe drivers and driving behavior. Look up your directions before you start driving, remember to leave a safe following distance, buckle up and let the phone calls and text messages wait until you are safely stopped.
