A server at an airport bar was ready to leave work at the end of his shift but he wouldn’t walk away from a man having a medical emergency who needed help.
Dennis J., a server with airport vendor SSP America, was walking to his car after his shift when he saw a man collapse in front of him. Determining his heart and breathing stopped, Dennis and a bystander began to perform CPR.
“Knowing that he gave this man who collapsed on the floor a chance to live again, I'm proud of Dennis and the organization for having a great person like him,” said his general manager who nominated him for recognition.

Maybe you heard the news this week about a new PHX terminal on the horizon. That got us thinking about the last new terminal we built. Peep Terminal 4, which was approved by the Phoenix City Council in 1986, and opened in November 1990 with five concourses and 44 gates.

For a limited time only, American Airlines has announced a new destination from PHX! Visit the city of Oaxaca, Mexico for Día de los Mu***os (Day of the Dead). There will only be four flights available: Oct. 29, Oct. 30, Nov. 3 and Nov. 4.

Fun fact: This will be the second-longest route from PHX to Mexico to date at 1,284 nautical miles (2,378 km)!

In honor of World Alzheimer's Day we’re highlighting the various dementia-friendly services available at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.

The Sensory Room located inside the Compassion Corner on Level 3 of Terminal 4, provides a dementia-friendly safe quiet space for people needing to escape loud and stimulating crowds.

We also offer the Compassion Cacti™ Lanyard Program, which is aimed at providing an extra-friendly hand to customers who need more time or additional assistance when traveling through the airport.

As a dementia-friendly airport, we also provide specialized training for staff members to assist passengers experiencing confusion or memory loss and host award-winning, free Dementia-Friendly Air Travel Workshops for care partners and family members.

Employees of The Grove, the company that oversees several eateries in Terminal 4, were recognized for their excellent customer service:
Pedal Haus Brewery GM Michael H. was nominated by his team to be recognized as an outstanding leader, who steps in to assist with the daily operation without hesitation.
Tonia B., a Pedal Haus Brewery server, frequently receives raves from customers about her professionalism, positive attitude, and exceptional customer service even under pressure;
Rainey J., a server at Bobby’s Burgers by Bobby Flay, brings a contagious energy and a warm welcoming attitude to every shift, making travelers feel instantly at ease;
Michelle R. (not pictured), a Pedal Haus Brewery server, consistently goes above and beyond to provide exceptional service, as reflected by her genuine hospitality, attention to detail, and ability to make each traveler feel seen and appreciated;
Jill H. (not pictured), a server at Pedal Haus Brewery, is said to be the heart of the Pedal Haus experience at Phoenix Sky Harbor by remembering guests' names and favorite orders and creating a warm and personalized experience that keeps travelers coming back.

We're celebrating Girls in Aviation Day a little early. Usually recognized on Sept. 19, we gave our guests the chance to take part in activities focusing on construction, engineering, airlines, art and technology. Participants could make hands-on STEAM crafts plus take part in other aviation-related activities.

In a new North America airport satisfaction study that’s based off customer surveys, Phoenix Sky Harbor ranked as one of the top three airports that serve 33 million or more passengers each year - for the third straight year. A passenger traveling alone with a 3-year-old, a car seat, suitcases, and two backpacks needed help, and an airport employee stepped right up.
The traveler arrived late in the evening when Edmond M., a passenger assistant with airport contractor Prospect International Airport Services, arrived on the scene when she needed help most.
“He handled everything with kindness, strength, and patience, and he helped me keep my daughter safe in a moment that could have easily turned stressful,” the passenger said of Edmond in nominating him for recognition.
“We had a wonderful conversation. He mentioned he loves The A-Team — especially the line, ‘I love it when a plan comes together.’ And that’s exactly the energy he brought to his work that night,” she said.
Edmond’s consideration and caring left a positive impression when it mattered most, so he was recognized by our Phoenix Sky Harbor On the FLY team (F = Friendly. L = Let me help. Y = You.)
