Did you know that PHX RESERVE has expanded and is now available at all checkpoints in Terminal 4? It’s true! PHX RESERVE is a free program travelers can use to reserve a time at the TSA Security Checkpoint screening area, now at all four checkpoints in Terminal 4. Maintenance workers jumped into action to help clear traffic and pedestrian lanes following an overnight accident.
A single-vehicle crash outside of Terminal 3 needed to be cleared after it was secured, and Charles C., a Facilities and Services supervisor with the Aviation Department, led a team and equipment to clear the inner curb lanes and sidewalk before the morning passenger rush. This not only protected passengers and drivers from a hazardous area, but also helped to resume normal operations swiftly.
Peter C., Stephen B., and Zachery M., equipment operators with Facilities and Services, also assisted with the effort.
Charles, Peter, Stephen and Zachery demonstrated how to do their job well, and they were recognized by Phoenix Sky Harbor’s On the FLY team (F = Friendly. L = Let me help. Y = You.)

Today is Amelia Earhart Day, a day to celebrate the achievements of Amelia Earhart and her legacy on her day of birth! Amelia was a trailblazer in the world of aviation, including inspiring the name of our very own Amelia the Airplane mascot. In 1931, Amelia Earhart visited Phoenix Sky Harbor during her cross-country flight sponsored by the Beech-Nut food company, flying a Pitcairn PCA-2 autogyro. The autogyro was a rotary-wing aircraft that was the first of its kind to be certified in the United States, and only those with financial backing or corporate sponsorship were able to afford one.

Two members of Phoenix Sky Harbor’s Auxiliary program highlight points of interest on a guided tour of the airport in the 1960s.

Sky Harbor’s Auxiliary program was an all-women volunteer group of retired flight attendants that provided information to travelers and presented airport tours to groups of school children between the 1960s and early 2000s.

The legacy of the Auxiliary lives on in today’s PHX Navigators – a group of volunteers whose mission is to make guest experiences at the airport more enjoyable.

Today during our Culture Corner event, we got a visit from the Phoenix Zoo! The event featured live Arizona desert animals along with zoo educators to offer travelers an up-close opportunity to learn about native wildlife. We also welcomed a special appearance by the Zoo’s mascot who posed for photos with all!

An airline employee gave some TLC to a passenger who had a Compassion Cacti™ lanyard and made her trip from Phoenix one to remember.
The passenger was wearing the Compassion Cacti™ lanyard indicating she needed a little extra time or assistance during her trip through PHX. This lanyard discreetly alerts airport staff that someone may benefit from added support.
She explained her concerns about flying, and airline employee Michael J. recognized the lanyard and was very helpful, letting her change her seat and board the plane first. Michael even notified airline agents in Seattle, her destination, and let them know she would need assistance when getting off the plane to find her party.
We love a story about an employee who goes the extra mile to assist a guest, especially during Disability Pride Month, and for that, Michael was recognized by Phoenix Sky Harbor’s On the FLY team (F = Friendly. L = Let me help. Y = You.)

PHX proudly welcomed the first North American arrival of the specially painted STARLUX AIRSORAYAMA A350‑1000 aircraft Tuesday night, a major milestone for both STARLUX Airlines and Phoenix Sky Harbor. Dignitaries, including Mayor Kate Gallego, STARLUX officials and airport leaders, were on hand to commemorate the occasion and take a tour. The aircraft is a flying work of art, in partnership with Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama. STARLUX is now using its flagship A350-1000, with additional seating, for the PHX-Taipei route after launching the nonstop service earlier this year.

These three neighboring businesses, managed by HMSHost, have all recertified their gold tier standing in the Green Business Partner Program! Blanco, Zinburger, and Olive & Ivy are located in Terminal 4 between Gates A3 and A5 and are all active participants in the PHX food waste collection program. Additionally, all locations collect used cooking oil for recycling that is later turned into biofuel.♻️
