Let’s give a round of applause for Skyler C., who recently became a MILLION-MILER!!! 🥳
Years ago, after watching the movie “Convoy,” he grew inspired to become a professional driver. At 21, he did exactly that. This began his journey over the road and the successful quest of reaching all of the lower 48 states.
Skyler finally reached this milestone after 9 years with Knight, but crossing the finish line had its share of adversity. Showcasing his grit and perseverance, he managed to push through mechanical issues with a few trucks. Eclipsing the 1M mark gave a sense of relief after a long, eventful journey. He cites the unwavering support of the Refrigerated team at , especially Jared C. (his former Driver Manager/Driver Development Manager), Marty W. (his current Driver Development Manager), and his friend Nathan.
When asked about his favorite parts of the job, Skyler notes “meeting new people across the country, making lifelong friends, and the beauty of America — particularly Highway 89 near the Grand Canyon and I-70 in Colorado.” He also shares that while life on the road can be lonely, “Friendships make it easier.” Often times, he’ll talk to other drivers during night shifts — keeping everyone connected.
To make the miles a little smoother, he stays engaged by looking for new sights — whether buildings or wildlife — maintaining a healthy diet (no junk food), and listening to Christian music/audiobooks.
Among his other accomplishments, perhaps the greatest sense of fulfillment in his career has been “mentoring other drivers and promoting safety.” He hopes to inspire others to “Be safer, communicate more, and help Knight as a safety leader in the industry.”
