One of my carriers truck and re**er trailer are paid off but he didn't know his break even. He was head strong on having to make $3 a mile and I kept trying to convince him that his break even wasn't that high.
I had a heart to heart with him yesterday morning and told him that I can't help him succeed and save without his help. He finally gave in this morning and provided me with his numbers. I configured his break even point and gave him a call back. His break even is $1.52/mile. Although his truck and re**er trailer are older (04)| gave him a couple of suggestions to help with his fuel consumption such as, not speeding and to start using his cruise control, it's better to buy fuel in the mornings when the prices are lower. not to wait til his empty to purchase fuel but purchasing along the drive.
His insurance is only $1,100 a month (renews next month so it'll probably be lower) so I suggested that if he can pay his insurance in full bi-weekly so he will have it paid off in 6 months. This will give him $6,600 that he can for other expenses or save it. I also suggest that he pay his ELD up for a year as well.
I Treat my carriers' trucks and trailers as if they are mine! I Find ways to set myself apart from other dispatchers. Just booking loads isn't going to fly. Sometimes it takes building that trust with my O/O’s before they'll open up and that's completely ok. I Just remember that you all are putting your company in our hands and it's our job to make these trucks profitable.

FOR O/Os only: HOW TO AVOID PREMATURE TYRE WEAR AND TEAR

Here are some things that can affect your tires’ lifespan:

Tyre Pressure – Over- or underinflating your tires can lead to rapid and uneven wear and tear. Check your car’s user manual for the optimum tire pressure. Try to check your tire pressure at least once a fortnight, so you can increase or decrease it as necessary.

Road Surfaces – Regularly driving on rough road surfaces can damage your tires. Driving over bumps or potholes can also take its toll.

Wheel Alignment – If your car’s wheels are unaligned, or if they’re unbalanced, then your tires won’t roll with maximum efficiency. This can lead to premature wear to their outer edges.

Temperature – Excessive temperatures – whether it’s too hot or too cold – can accelerate rubber degradation. Unfortunately, unless you have somewhere secure to keep your car, there’s not much you can do to protect your tires from the seasons. Though some drivers use “standard” tires in the summer before switching to winter tires once it gets colder.

We as Dispatcher request all the O/Os and dispatchers;
Will you guys stop accepting freight under 3 dollars a mile. Freight’s up but these brokers keep posting those low rates. Let it set if they’re not paying 3 dollars plus.
