“Then Yahweh God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him.’ And out of the ground Yahweh God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and He brought each to the man to see what he would call it; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. And the man gave names to all the cattle and to the birds of the sky and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him” (Genesis 2:18–20).

The first scene in the Garden of Eden depicts Adam naming the animals. Many people have questioned how Adam could have named all of the animals in a single day, but a close look at the text and basic understanding of the biblical teaching about “kinds” of animals quickly clears up this issue.

Adam did not need to name the marine life and insects. He was only responsible for naming each kind of flying creature and certain land animals. He did not need to name coyotes, wolves, dingoes, and foxes because at that time, only the original members of the dog kind existed. There was no need to name lions, tigers, cheetahs, and bobcats because there were only the original cats. These factors greatly reduce the number of animals he needed to name and reveal how he could have easily named the creatures in one day.

God created “male and female” in his image. There is a great deal of confusion regarding gender due to the growing transgender movement, but God’s Word brings needed clarity and simplicity to this issue. We do not have the authority to redefine and ignore what God has created and ordained.
