On Saturday, September 26th Airport Admin, Erica Stewart attended a retirement party for long time airport tenant Harold Nelson, 87, owner of Pendleton Aircraft Services. The party was held at the Sherwood area home of Harold and his wife, Linda surrounded by friends, family, long-time customers, business associates and several of Harold’s fellow GA buddies. Harold has been a tenant and has worked at PDT since 1969. Born in 1939, Harold made his very first flight at the age of 16. He flew a gyrocopter that he built himself and then crashed. He suffered no injuries, except to his pride. However, it did nothing to stop his love of flying. He then went on only a few years later to get his pilot’s license at the age of 19 and then on to receive his A&P (Airframe & Powerplant) Mechanics Certification at age 21. At his party, Harold mentioned that he even worked for Bill Boeing up in the Seattle area while he was in the process of getting his A&P certification back in 1959. And he has been working on things that fly ever since. He has worked on all kinds of aircraft, both airplanes ✈️ and helicopters 🚁 and he never has lost that love of flying. At the end of July this year, Harold’s son Curtiss took over the controls and ownership of Pendleton Aircraft Services from his father, a business in which they have worked together for many years. I can almost guarantee that Harold will still be up here at the airport from time to time tinkering and working on his planes and other projects to make them fly when he and Linda aren’t traveling around, visiting friends and family and enjoying a well-deserved retirement. Best wishes and clear skies to you always Harold from all of us here at PDT. 🌞☀️
