We are open and operational! After almost an entire month of no commercial air traffic it was nice to see the CRJ back on our airfield.
All businesses in the main terminal are open during their normal hours. PLN thanks you all for your support and understanding through this time and we are looking forward to resuming our normal operations!

As of today, we are scheduled to open back up tomorrow, Tuesday, May 5 with the main ILS runway 14/32 opening for traffic. Runway 5/23 will remain closed a little longer as we are still pumping water from the safety area of that runway to a desired infield location. Once the water has receded to a safe distance we will open 5/23 back up as well. We have had a total of 5 pumps running almost 24 hours a day for a couple of weeks now at different locations on the airfield. Our contracted operations personnel from Pellston ARFF, Inc. have completed the cleanup and lighting inspections needed to return to normal hours tomorrow morning, with the first commercial flight expected around 10am. We will continue to fly Delta flights through SkyWest airlines, and then they will be joined by United flights to Chicago starting May 21st again for the summer season.
Thanks goes out to Ramsby Well Drilling who assisted us in trenching areas needed to direct water flow to the pumps provided by AIS Equipment, Pellston Fire Department and Tri County Excavating as well as a State of Michigan resource pump from the DNR. We continue to update the airlines, FEDEX and UPS aircraft as well as the general aviation community on our status.
PLN would like to thank the community for their understanding, patience and support during this extraordinary spring thaw, and we are looking forward to returning to normal operations as soon as it is safe to do so.
Thanks again to Charlie Macinnis for the great updated aerial photo.

We continue to make progress on dewatering the runways and associated safety areas with the use of the portable pumps and excavation work. Both runways remain closed until next week when we will evaluate again as we complete water removal, soil erosion and lighting repairs. The target date to reopen is now Tuesday 5 May, and the airlines and our flying community have been made aware. Reminder that our tenants continue to be open with their normal business hours. Thank you for your understanding throughout this flood and we are looking forward to opening as soon as it safe to do so. Thank you Charlie Macinnis for the updated aerial photos.

A third water pump was acquired on Friday afternoon. As you can see in the three photos, the water line has gone down and we continue to pump the water away from the runway edges and safety areas. We have extended the runway closures until Friday of this week and will continue to evaluate and communicate with the airlines and the rest of our flying community daily in the meantime. Thank you for your continued support and understanding with our situation here at PLN.

The Pellston Regional Airport continues to address the flooding water on the airfield. We now have two large pumps flowing water away from the runways and safety areas to assist with the water removal process. We have extended the current runway closures until Tuesday the 28th of April to assist travelers make other arrangements with the airlines over the weekend. We apologize to our travelers that this flood has affected, and we continue to appreciate the understanding and support from everyone as we monitor the situation and communicate with the airlines daily.
Just a reminder, all of our tenants are open and operating their normal business hours.

The runways and some taxiways are still covered with running water at various depths continuing to make it unsafe for fixed wing operations at PLN. We have extended our timeline for re-evaluation to Thursday morning, anticipating that the sunshine and warmer weather in our forecast will help with eliminating the water hazards enough to allow normal operations to resume soon. We continue to communicate with the airlines, tenants and our recurring cargo flight operators to keep them advised of our situation as well. Reminder that the businesses that operate out of the main terminal continue to be open during their normally scheduled hours of operation. Thank you for continued understanding of our situation here at Pellston Regional Airport.

For clarification after many phone calls, even though the runways and taxiways are closed at PLN, our airport tenants are still open. Hoppies Landing Restaurant in the main terminal, Mackinaw Shuttle, Avis/Budget rental car, and Delta airlines counter will continue to operate their normal business hours. Thank you!

Although the flooding water coming in to the airport continues to flow, we can see some recession in some areas of the infield and safety areas. The water still flows over the runway intersection and down the length of the primary ILS runway 32 as well. We are still evaluating changes to conditions and maintaining communications with the airlines and all of our flying community. As you can see in these pictures the amount of the water still standing on the aircraft movement surfaces and the safety areas does not allow us to safely operate any aircraft except helicopters in and out of PLN. Thank you for your continued support to all our community effected by these record thaws. Thank you Charlie Macinnis for providing the exceptional aerial photos that say more than we can describe with words about our current situation at the airport.

PLN continues to flood today with no change in water levels on the airfield runways, taxiways and safety areas. Included in this post is the latest from the national weather service for our area as well. It is an excellent source to get weather updates frequently throughout the day as they update their bulletins. Information and current pictures are forwarded daily to our flying community, airlines and tenants to keep them informed as well. We appreciate the positive comments, patience and understanding during this “historic” event and will continue to update this site as needed if things do change.
