Mike Leleux, training and recruiting manager at Halter Marine, conducted a virtual presentation to the Gulf Coast Human Resource Association. “Growing your own workforce” tells the story of Halter Marine and the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College teaming together to create the shipyard’s first apprentice program. Thanks to your generosity, employees at Halter Marine donated between 900 to 1,000 toys, stuffed animals, books and bikes to deserving children across Jackson County.

We have been part of the sheriff department’s Santa Wears a Badge program since its inception seven years ago. In that time, the sheriff’s office has come to rely on our participation, said program coordinator Connie Bosarge.

“Halter Marine has always been a big supporter of our program, and yall really love the community. With the pandemic, we weren’t sure what kind of toy donation we would get this year. Halter Marine has gone above and beyond getting it done.”

To qualify for toy donations, families in Jackson County submit an application through Bosarge’s office. The sheriff’s department verifies the need. Our employee donations go directly to providing a happy Christmas for children around the county.

“We are truly tied to our community, and we try to help out as much as we can,” said Jeremy Malone, security surveillance analyst for Halter Marine. “It’s a wonderful feeling when you can help kids in need.”

This year, the pandemic has created an even greater need, which is why Halter Marine employees rallied to provide even more donations than years past.

“So many people were affected by the pandemic having things shut down,” said Randall Green, shipfitting foreman. “We were really blessed here. We worked every day, and I think it’s important to put that good will back into our community. It’s a good thing to help others.”

Thank you to everyone who brought in a toy. Your generosity truly will warm children’s hearts across the county this year. Season’s greetings and merry Christmas!

If you would like to donate to Santa Wears a Badge, tomorrow (Dec 16) is the final day to drop off a toy, book, bike or stuffed animal....anything a child would love to have for Christmas.
