When people ask where our name comes from…this is maybe 30% of the inspiration and the rest was when this term was used to describe retired military personnel called back up to assist efforts during WWII. They brought them back to help train or to run logistics or otherwise help keep the younger folks out where they were most desperately needed.
I took that idea when I got back in to paintball and after playing as a teenager. When I came back the electro dominance was EVERYWHERE. And guys with guns and setups that cost more than my first car were mowing down walk ons with rental guns. That was driving people immediately away from the sport and killing it and killing the vibe I got playing, back when most people used pumps and mechanical semi auto was relatively new (yup…that old) but the game was so much more fun and the barrier to entry for new players was so much more accessible and equitable. I wanted some of us old guys to lead the way in bringing back that vibe.
That’s what I wanted to recreate. So, I started hosting limited ammo games. Not requiring people buy fancy pump guns but if you brought an electro I gave you a gravity hopper at my expense to play with. Or, we only let folks bring one pod of paint or one hopper of paint and zero pods. It was great and we grew tremendously.
Now there’s a mech or pump game nearly every month and mech tournaments and mech guns are very popular. Autocockers are super popular and new ones can be had. Other old mech gun companies released new runs or completely new mech guns. Established brands have done so also.
I love seeing it and I think the game is growing again because of it. Thanks to all those that helped out and contributed during those years. Thanks for making something old, new again.
I think we helped make a difference and hopefully inspired the next generation.
