π¨ Dear friends and colleagues: TRUCKING INDUSTRY ALERT: FMCSA MOTUS PROBLEMS ARE DISRUPTING CARRIERS πβ οΈ
FMCSA launched Motus: USDOT Registration System on May 19, 2026, as its new centralized registration platform. The system is designed to modernize registration, improve data integrity, and fight carrier fraud. But the transition has created serious headaches for some trucking companies.
β οΈ WHAT CARRIERS ARE REPORTING:
β Authority & Registration Problems
Technical issues have resulted in some carriers encountering incorrect or unexpected operating-authority information. In at least one documented case, a carrier was stopped at a weigh station after its authority appeared inactive following a Motus-related BOC-3 issue.
β Trucks Can Be Stuck While Problems Are Resolved
When federal records show a carrier as inactive or not authorized, the consequences can be immediate: trucks may be unable to continue operating while the company works to correct its registration records.
β Account & USDOT Linking Issues
The transition requires carriers to use the new Motus environment for registration activity, including managing existing records. FMCSA has published additional guidance and troubleshooting resources as companies transition to the new platform.
π¨ FMCSA HAS ALREADY TAKEN TEMPORARY ACTION
FMCSA temporarily suspended enforcement of the biennial-update requirement and the related inactivation of USDOT numbers for entities whose biennial updates were due on or after June 1, 2026.
That means qualifying carriers will receive additional time and will not have their USDOT numbers inactivated simply for failing to complete that biennial update during the transition period.
β οΈ WATCH OUT FOR SCAMS
Fraudsters also target trucking companies with communications pretending to come from FMCSA or USDOT. Be extremely careful before providing your USDOT information, EIN, SSN, login credentials, banking information, or payment details.
FMCSA advises carriers to verify suspicious communications through official government channels and notes that official FMCSA websites use .gov domains.
π WHAT TRUCKING COMPANIES SHOULD DO NOW:
β
Regularly verify your USDOT and operating-authority information
β
Keep copies of insurance, BOC-3 and registration records
β
Address discrepancies as soon as you discover them
β
Do not trust new emails or unofficial registration websites
β
Use official FMCSA resources when making registration changes
β
Contact FMCSA immediately when a issue threatens operations
For a trucking company, a registration-system error isn't just an IT problem. It can mean a truck sitting instead of hauling freight while insurance, equipment payments, payroll and other expenses continue.
Stay informed. Check your records. Protect your authority. ππΊπΈ
