Relaxed Riders of RRVT

Relaxed Riders of RRVT A group of Panora area people who are interested in riding bikes to meet up for some loosely organized rides on the RRVT. Not very far or very fast.

In the spring of 2013, Sandy Lowe tried to get some people who are interested in riding bikes to meet up for some loosely organized rides on the RRVT. Most never plan to go on RAGBRAI type rides. They just want to ride the trail, not very far or fast. Barb Wollner & Sandy Lowe lead these rides on Monday &/or Tuesday evenings from April to October 2013. Our rides consisted of meeting at the trailhe

ad in Panora, riding to Yale or Linden, stop to rest, share snacks and talk before riding back to Panora. Most riders were ladies, some brought their husbands and many ages were represented. Some riders only went ½ way, but most made the entire 12 mile journey at a variety of speeds.

The RRVT Association is looking for two riders who are available to serve as sweep riders to follow the Market To Market Relay runners on Saturday, May 11.

The job is picking up signage after the last runner has passed from Panora to Waukee. One rider pulls a Burley cart and the other helps load the signs. There is a truck at each exchange point. The two riders would be earning $200 for the RRVT Association.

If you are interested, please contact Sandy Lowe (641) 757-0451.

On Saturday, April 6th there were still 4 drifts I couldn't ride through with my road bike. I assume the warm evenings Saturday & Sunday would have helped.

I know it's spring and we can normally ride wherever we want on the Raccoon River Valley Trail, but due to so much snow there are still huge drifts and probably standing water in the shady areas and valleys.

Joe Hanner reported at the RRVT Association meeting last Wednesday that his crew has not been able to get close to all of the small bridges to see if they were damaged yet. Currently they are dealing with flood damage in other parks.

Tate Boyd, the 10-year-old whose $350 birthday donation to the “Let’s Connect” trail project has inspired many other donations, was saluted at the ribbon cutting Oct. 12 to open the new stretch of trail. And then the Hotel Pattee announced an especially nice matching deal. Read the story below...

Hey Relaxed Riders and friends. If you are looking for a morning event before the Yale parade - don't forget the Yale 4th of July Poker Run ride. Start either in Panora or Yale - ride to the opposite town and back, so a total of 12 miles. Just like we do every week. $3 entry fee, collect 5 cards along the way a turn them in when you are back to your start. Best 3 poker hands win cash donated by the Yale 4th of July committee. 100% Proceeds from the ride are split between Yale trail stop maintenance and the RRVT specified for maintenance. Ride starts anywhere between 7 and 9AM - the only rule is you need to finish by 10 AM. Early starters can ride leisurely, late starters have to get there and back in an hour, so plan accordingly. Sandy, Holly and I (Barb) will be manning the 3 stops - hope to see you out there. Spread the word to your friends.

I forgot to report about the results of the Yale 4th of July Poker Run. The prize money is donated by the Yale Community Club so every dollar collected was donated back to the trail. We took in $139. $70 was given to the City of Yale as they maintain the bathrooms at the Yale trailhead. $69 was given to the Prairie Woodland Foundation towards the paved crossing project that is scheduled for this fall.

Thank you to all who donated!
