The Flying Hawks have completed the journey!
As many of you may know, last August, our beloved cardinal was involved in an incident that resulted in a total loss of the aircraft. The board took this as an opportunity to redo the aircraft situation across the club as a whole.
We decided that due to lack of useful load, fuel capacity, and member endorcements, our J-3 cub was not benefiting the club as much as we wanted it to. So as we looked for a replacement aircraft for the cardinal, we also took the initiative to sell our cub and buy a more full-member usable, friendly aircraft. Quite the undertaking in this pressing and high-priced economy!
We accomplished 2 of the 3 steps January, as we sold the cub and bought 4463J, our piper PA28-140 Cherokee! Please see our previous post for specs on this great little bird!
With that part done, full focus shifted to a cardinal replacement. We are happy to report we accomplished this last week when we flew home N8042F, our 1975 Cessna 172M Superhawk! This is not any ordinary 172. This was a rose in a field of dandelions. This aircraft has never been used as a flight school aircraft, so it has an almost unheard of 2400AFTT! It also has the Penn-Yan O-360 180HP stc engine conversion, giving it 180hp! But it's also paired with a powerflow exhaust, giving it (estimated) 200+hp! And it only has 440 hrs SMOH, so it has incredibly low engine and airframe time! It's also had quite the avionics upgrade-Garmin GTN750, Aspen evolution 1000, Garmin 496, and it's all paired to a s-tec autopilot w/altitude hold! Useful load over 1000 #! This aircraft is such a gem. Low time, high horsepower, and in almost flawless shape. Easily a 9/10 both interior and exterior.
So with all of that being said, we are excited to announce we have multiple openings in the club for new members! So if you're looking for an affordable way to fly, here is your chance! With a membership, you get access to both airplanes! (some contingencies apply). We are based at the nicest grass strip in Wisconsin, 88C in Palmyra. With a 2700' x 200' strip, it's a breeze getting in and out!
