Big things may be coming to Anchorage and housing is a big part of the conversation. 🏡🇺🇸
JBER is preparing for billions of dollars in military investment and modernization over the next several years, and Anchorage officials are planning for approximately 2,500 additional military families during that time.
So what does that mean for those of us who live here?
More investment in JBER can mean more jobs, more families supporting local businesses and continued investment in our community.
But there’s another side: housing.
Anchorage already has a limited housing supply, and on-base housing is reportedly at capacity. If thousands of additional families are looking for homes off base, that could create even more demand for both rentals and homes for sale.
That’s why there is such a big push right now to build and rehabilitate more housing throughout Anchorage. The city has a goal of adding or substantially rehabilitating 10,000 homes over the next decade, and officials say the expected military growth makes that work even more important.
For homeowners, buyers, investors and military families, this is definitely something worth paying attention to.
It doesn’t automatically mean prices will rise or that buying is right for everyone but more people + an already tight housing supply = a market worth watching.
And for our military families relocating to Alaska: you don’t have to figure the Alaska housing market out alone. Whether you’re looking near JBER, farther into Anchorage, Eagle River or even the Valley, I’m happy to help you understand your options and connect you with the right resources.
