Durham School Services & Teamsters Local 959 Reach Tentative Agreement



It is with great pleasure that we announce that both Durham School Services and Teamsters Local 959 have been successful in reaching a tentative agreement on their new contract for the Mat-Su school bus workers. We understand that the Teamsters Local 959 membership will hold a meeting tomorrow to vote on the tentative contract, which, upon ratification, would potentially return the striking school bus workers to their duties on Tuesday, May 5th.



The health and safety of our team members is paramount to Durham School Services, and we believe this proposed new deal will be welcomed by members. Wage and insurance concerns were both addressed, and both parties are satisfied with the outcome of the negotiations. Durham School Services has high safety standards and expectations for their drivers. We want the very best for our drivers and want them to be the safest on the road for our students.



We are looking forward to our team members returning to work and providing school bus services for students in the MatSu Borough School District. Thank you to the students, parents, guardians, friends, neighbors, and relatives of the MatSu Valley for their understanding throughout the negotiation process. We know it was not easy, and we appreciate your patience. Both parties look forward to working together and providing full school bus service to the MatSu Valley potentially beginning on Tuesday, May 5th.

Update

Last evening, we were pleased to learn that Teamsters Local 959 has agreed to participate in mediation through the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS). Throughout this process, we have kept the door open to continued dialogue and remain committed to productive engagement.

At the end of January, Teamsters Local 959 contacted us and proposed a number of potential meeting dates, including March 17th and 18th, which we agreed to. We confirmed that we are open to these March meeting dates, contingent upon both parties jointly requesting mediation through FMCS. Those dates remain reserved, and we are currently awaiting final confirmation from the Teamsters.

In the meantime, our focus remains on reaching a fair and sustainable agreement while avoiding any disruption to service for families and the broader Mat-Su community. We look forward to meeting on March 17th and, if needed, reconvening on March 18th. We remain optimistic that we can reach an agreement based on our generous, above-market offer.

The Mat-Su community deserves stability and uninterrupted service, and we will continue working diligently toward that goal.
