Long holiday weekends can create more opportunities for cargo theft. In CargoNet’s five-year analysis of Labor Day theft activity, 214 theft events were recorded, with the Friday before Labor Day showing the most activity.
Extended closures, reduced staffing, and freight sitting unattended can all create additional risk. Before the long weekend, it is worth double-checking carrier information, pickup details, secure parking plans, shipment visibility, and who needs to be contacted if something does not look right.
A few extra checks before freight moves can make a big difference after it does. Stay safe this Labor Day weekend.
