The Hubble Space Telescope is celebrating its 36th anniversary this April 24 by turning its gaze toward the breathtaking Trifid Nebula.

🔴 Located about 5,000 light-years from Earth, the Trifid Nebula (Messier 20) is a vibrant cloud of gas and dust—its shape often compared to a flowing sea creature drifting through space. 🌊

🔴 For at least 300,000 years, powerful nearby stars (just outside the frame) have been shaping this stellar nursery. Their intense ultraviolet radiation continues to compress surrounding material, sparking new waves of star formation.

🔴 This isn’t Hubble’s first look. It captured the Trifid Nebula back in 1997—and now, decades later, new observations reveal subtle changes unfolding even within a human lifetime.

🔴 Launched on April 24, 1990, the Hubble Space Telescope has made over 1.7 million observations, contributing to more than 23,000 scientific papers 🤯—including nearly 1,100 in 2025 alone.
