My adopted girl, Mzinga!

It's time for another : "There are moments in travel that stay with you forever"… and this is another one of mine from my recent trip to Kenya with Tembo Wild. 🤍

Meet my adopted elephant, Mzinga.

Rescued at just about one month old in Tsavo East National Park, Mzinga was found completely alone...her survival nothing short of fate after a chance sighting near Msinga Hill. Today, at four years old, she’s thriving at the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust’s Nairobi Nursery… and let me tell you, she has a personality. (This is why I chose HER)

She’s independent (sometimes a little too independent), fiercely curious, and incredibly compassionate. While she’s known to wander off and do her own thing, she’s also the one who stays behind for others; like gently guiding shy little Alia back to the herd or going out to search when she’s missing.

And that’s what makes this so special…

The Sheldrick Wildlife Trust isn’t just rescuing elephants, they are rehabilitating them, raising orphaned calves with round-the-clock care, and ultimately reintroducing them back into the wild where they belong. Their work spans anti-poaching efforts, habitat protection, and community outreach across Kenya.

Mzinga is one of the lucky ones. 🐘
And now, I get to be a small part of her story.

Travel has always been about connection for me...but this? This is something deeper.
