SoDo District

SoDo District The is a Nationally Accredited Main Street organization sododistrict.org

The SoDo District represents a robust network of business owners, property owners, and residents who are investing in our community’s short and long-term success. Our efforts are centered on a vision of the District as a healthy, prosperous, and vibrant neighborhood and commercial district by constantly working to promote our local merchants, improve our streetscape, and deliver community-driven e

vents. While we are lean nonprofit organization, we leverage our partnerships with local governments, agencies, and institutions like the City of Orlando, Orlando Health, OUC, Orange County, and the Florida Department of Transportation to produce creative, resourceful, and sustainable solutions and opportunities for our District. As a Nationally Accredited Main Street, we have established ourselves as an organization taking the lead on high-value community engagement and economic development activity. Our Main Street membership looks like much of our District: locally-owned, community-focused, and diverse. While our organization benefits business owners, property owners, and residents alike, Our SoDo Members enjoy additional outstanding benefits as sponsors and partners of our main street! As we make strides to grow and support our community, we hope you join us in making the SoDo District one the of the BEST main streets in the country!

The S**o Board volunteers love getting out to know the community. Last week, S**o Board of Directors member, Karlye Martorelli, arranged an outstanding tour at Cristo Rey Orlando High School with students Eurick and Kess. Getting to meet these students, hear the mission of the school and how it serves students from across our region serves an important part of our mission. Getting to know our community, young people looking to make their communities better, and how we can connect our businesses and residents to local resources is something that drives us to sustain our community in the future.

Reach out if you’d like to learn more - we can connect you anytime!

This month we’re spotlighting another amazing S**o volunteer working on our board to help our community thrive!
Alexa Williams, S**o Main Street Board of Directors member and Treasurer, has lived in the S**o area since she was in high school, so it only felt natural she’d start volunteering with the S**o district.
“I’ve come to understand just how much heart goes into making a community like S**o what it is, and how much work it takes to build a strong support system within it.”
Being a part of that support system is something that Williams said gives her the drive to keep going with her work in S**o.
Thank you Alexa for your care and dedication to building up S**o!

The creative talent in Orlando continues to blow us away! We had the pleasure of experiencing the collaboration of STUDIO VIN and ayotheproducer over the weekend. ZWhat an inspiration this storytelling journey was. “Prism of Self” welcomed us into a multi-sensory experience exploring Ayo the Producer’s journey from adolescence to present day. So many local creatives and organizers contributed to bringing this impressive vision to reality, highlighting the power of vision, collaboration, and community to tell the stories of our lives.

From the music to dramatic colorful visuals, movement and tastes, there was so much to take in and breathe future life into our space.

We have many projects to come for this emerging creative hub in the heart of S**o. If you’re interested in bringing more of this to our community, we’re always looking for passionate volunteers to elevate our efforts. DM us or visit our website to learn more!

Thank you to POLYMATH and STUDIO VIN for allowing us to be immersed in this project!

S**o was alive with many gatherings celebrating all things creative in our Orlando community last week. CityArts kicked off an exhibition featuring 30 artists across our Orlando Main Streets with several current and upcoming S**o artists selected to display their work. Featured S**o artists and residents included Kate Hartig long time resident and founding S**o board member, Joe Krawczyk, High Hound Low Hound Danielle Marie Lazala and Bridget Hartig • Orlando Artist The exhibit premiered during 3rd Thursday and will continue through Saturday, September 12 and is free to visit in our neighbors City District Orlando

“Color Commentary,” an arts conversation by Vidi featured jamilyn from Kaya | Neighborhood Restaurant & Bar Thali Sugisawa from United Arts Central Florida and Andre Bohrer from Cinnabar This thoughtful arts dialogue drew on the panelists’ expertise to expand our local arts opportunities. Nearly 60 creatives from around Orlando gathered at Ligature Coffee to engage in meaningful creative conversation while enjoying music, light bites, and community.

We have an abundance of creative events happening in and around our community going into the fall. We hope you’ll take time out of your busy days to go see the creativity in action and let their work fuel your own creative passions and interests this fall.

Our Orlando Main Streets directors got together last week at Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer’s State of the City address!

During his speech the mayor gave a shout out to the great work done by our amazing Main Streets.

“Year after year, Orlando is named one of the best cities in the nation to launch a business. The Orlando Main Streets program, which the city started in 2008, has made that recognition possible,” said Mayor Dyer.

Over the last 18 years, over 3,000 businesses have opened in our Orlando Main Streets. On top of that, nearly half of this year’s Michelin recognized restaurants in the area are within the Main Streets!

Congratulations to Sabai Thai Street Food | Orlando Thai Restaurant our S**o Squeeze of the month!

The family restaurant located at 3333 S. Orange Ave is built on dishes directly from Thailand.

Head Chef Vidaree Pisara grew up in Thailand, learning to cook from her family. Now she’s bringing that vision to S**o and her son, Chef Alex, is serving it up for your enjoyment!

“The inspiration was a calling to start a business with our family that would continue Vidaree’s gift of giving and hospitality through her food,” said Bill Spradlin, Vidaree’s husband. “We had been looking at various other locations, but when we found this spot it felt for us and just like home. S**o’s diverse community is a perfect fit for our family.”

Thank you Sabai for bringing good food to our neighborhood and being a part of the S**o and Orlando Main Streets family!

🧡 A big thank you to the partners who helped us bring Main Streets Sip & Savor to life! We couldn’t have spread the word without their generosity. With all 12 Orlando Main Streets participating and 100+ businesses featured, this was truly a citywide effort—we’re so proud that 18 S**o businesses joined the effort.

We’re grateful to our media partners, Community Paper Orlando OrlandoShine.com and Orlando Weekly for helping us spread the word and shine a light on the businesses at the heart of our neighborhoods.

For S**o, our partnership with the City of Orlando and funding support from the South Downtown Neighborhood Improvement District (DSNID) helped us amplify this effort and give back to our community. This direct investment in S**o helps us support and showcase our businesses while creating one-of-a-kind opportunities for our community throughout the year.

Thank you all for showing up for our local businesses and our Main Street family. 🍊
