If you’ve ever wondered why Disney Cruise Line fans rave about Castaway Cay…

Now I get to show you.

I’ve been fortunate to visit some beautiful beaches over the years, but there’s just something different about stepping off the ship and onto Disney’s private island. Maybe it’s because everything is designed exclusively for Disney Cruise guests. Maybe it’s the pristine beaches, crystal-clear water, or the fact that you never feel like you’re being sold to.

Whatever it is… it just feels like paradise.

This trip made it even more special because it was the first visit to Castaway Cay for both grandmas and the kids.

Watching them discover the island together reminded me why I love bringing family here.

One of our favorite adventures was snorkeling. Disney has created an underwater treasure hunt filled with hidden props, statues, and surprises that make exploring just as much fun as relaxing on the beach. The kids loved searching for everything hidden beneath the surface.

Of course, I couldn’t pass up the Castaway Cay 5K either. There’s something about starting the day with a run through paradise that makes the post-race soft serve taste even better. 🍦😂

And just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better…

While relaxing at Serenity Bay, we spotted a lemon shark cruising through the crystal-clear water. It was completely unexpected and such a cool reminder that you’re experiencing nature, not just another beach.

Every time I visit Castaway Cay, I’m reminded why Disney consistently ranks among the best private islands in the cruise industry.

It’s not because it has the biggest water park or the most thrilling attractions.

It’s because Disney understands that sometimes the best vacation days are the ones where you slow down, unplug, and simply enjoy being together.

And somehow…

I’ll admit it… I wasn’t sure what to expect going into our SNUBA excursion in Cozumel.

I’ve snorkeled before. I’ve never been scuba diving. SNUBA seemed like the perfect middle ground, but I wondered if it would actually be worth it.

Spoiler alert…

It absolutely was.

The best way I can describe it is this: imagine all the freedom of scuba diving without needing to be scuba certified.

Your air supply floats on a raft at the surface, and you’re connected by a long air hose, allowing you to comfortably explore the reef below while breathing normally. After a short safety briefing, we were in the water and descending beneath the surface.

For the kids, this was pure magic.

They’ve always loved swimming and snorkeling, but being able to explore an actual coral reef from underwater took it to a completely different level. Watching their excitement as they pointed out colorful fish, coral formations, and all the marine life around us is something I’ll never forget.

And honestly…

I think I was just as amazed as they were.

Cozumel is known for having some of the clearest water in the Caribbean, and once you get below the surface, it’s easy to understand why it’s considered one of the world’s premier diving destinations.

This excursion ended up being one of the highlights of our entire cruise.

If you’ve ever been curious about scuba diving but weren’t ready to commit to certification, I can’t recommend SNUBA enough. It’s approachable, family-friendly for eligible participants, and an unforgettable way to experience Cozumel from a whole new perspective.

Sometimes the best vacation memories aren’t made on the ship…

They’re waiting just beneath the surface. 🤿🐠🌊

One of the things Disney Cruise Line does better than anyone else is entertainment.

And I’m not just talking about the Broadway-caliber shows (although Hercules and Frozen absolutely blew us away).

I’m talking about the entire experience.

From the moment you step onboard, Disney fills every day with something new to discover. Character interactions that feel personal instead of rushed. Live music throughout the ship. Deck parties. Pirate Night. Fireworks at sea. The Grand Hall coming alive with heroes and villains. Everywhere you look, there’s something happening.

One of my favorite moments from this cruise was simply watching our family interact with the characters. Seeing both grandmas laughing with Mickey like they were kids again… that’s the kind of memory you can’t manufacture.

Pirate Night was another huge hit. We decided to go all out with costumes this year, and I’m so glad we did. It made the entire evening even more immersive, and Disney absolutely delivers the deck party to the fireworks overhead.

And then there was one experience I never expected…

We had the opportunity to watch the premiere of Toy Story 5 while sailing aboard the Disney Destiny.

How cool is that?

Only Disney can make seeing a brand-new Disney/Pixar movie feel like part of the vacation itself.

That’s what continues to impress me about Disney Cruise Line.

They don’t just provide entertainment, they create moments that become part of your family’s story.

By the end of the cruise, I realized it wasn’t just the incredible shows or the fireworks that stood out.

It was watching three generations laugh together, cheer together, and occasionally turn into little kids together.

And honestly…

I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way. ❤️

Hot take: The food is my favorite part of Disney Cruise Line. 🤤

No really… if you know me, you know I’m a foodie.

I’ve been fortunate to spend years in the competition BBQ and steak world, and it’s completely changed the standard by which I judge food and dining experiences. So when I say Disney Cruise Line excels in this category, I don’t say it lightly.

And I’m not talking about really good chicken tenders and burgers (although don’t get me wrong—they have those too!).

I’m talking about Disney’s rotational dining.

Only Disney Cruise Line offers three uniquely themed restaurants, each with its own atmosphere, entertainment, and menu crafted specifically for that experience. Dinner becomes so much more than just a meal—it becomes part of the storytelling.

Jamie and I couldn’t wait to experience the brand-new Pride Lands: Feast of The Lion King, exclusive to the Disney Destiny.

Let’s just say… only one of us walked away calling it our new favorite. 😂

I absolutely loved everything about it—the immersive theming, incredible live performances, and authentic African-inspired menu. Jamie loved the ambience just as much as I did, but the menu ventured a little farther outside her comfort zone. 🤣 And honestly, I love that Disney was willing to take that creative risk instead of playing it safe.

As much as we loved the rotational dining (which is all included in your cruise fare, by the way), nothing could top Enchanté.

Yes, it’s expensive.

Very expensive.

But it’s also one of the finest dining experiences I’ve ever had.

Curated by three-Michelin-starred Chef Arnaud Lallement, every course was beautifully presented, incredibly refined, and somehow even better than the last. The service was impeccable, the atmosphere was elegant without feeling stuffy, and every detail felt intentional.

Three hours later, I still wasn’t ready for it to end.

10/10. Worth every penny.

This is, quite possibly, my favorite moment of any Disney Cruise.

Boarding the ship for the first time, hearing your family name announced, being welcomed aboard by the crew’s applause, and then stepping into the Grand Hall where you’re instantly transported into another world.

Disney has mastered the art of the “big reveal.”

It’s the same feeling you get the first time you round the corner on Main Street, U.S.A. and Cinderella Castle comes into view. For just a moment, everything else fades away, and you’re reminded that you’re somewhere truly special.

The Disney Destiny is no exception.

The Grand Hall is absolutely breathtaking, and the Imagineers did an incredible job weaving the Heroes and Villains theme into every detail. It’s elegant, immersive, and full of subtle storytelling that you’ll continue discovering throughout the voyage.

But what made this moment even more special was getting to experience it through someone else’s eyes.

This was the first Disney Cruise for both grandmas—Nanny and Memere—and watching their faces light up as they stepped into the Grand Hall for the very first time is a memory I’ll never forget.

For me, that’s what Disney Cruise Line is all about.

Yes, the ships are beautiful. Yes, the entertainment is world-class. But the moments you’ll treasure most are the ones you share with the people you love.

Those smiles were worth the trip all by themselves. ❤️

I have to be honest… I had mixed emotions going into this multi-generational trip on the Disney Destiny.

This was our first ever trip with both grandmas joining us—my mom, “Nanny,” and Jamie’s mom, “Memere.” And not only was this their first Disney cruise, it was the first time either one of them had ever stepped foot on a cruise ship or been to the Caribbean.

That part had me incredibly excited. I couldn’t wait to see them experience the magic of Disney Cruise Line for the first time.

But I also had a little apprehension.

The Destiny leans hard into the heroes and villains theming, and as a family full of princess and classic Disney-loving fans, I wasn’t totally sure how much the overall theme would resonate with everyone.

And this is where Disney completely surprised me again.

It ended up being such a testament to how masterful Disney is at storytelling and creating emotional connection.

Everybody loved it.

Even both grandmas, who have never seen a Marvel movie in their lives. Hello, Black Panther-themed Grand Hall! Haha.

But it didn’t matter.

They absolutely fell in love with it all.

The wonder on their faces the first time they saw the beauty of the Grand Hall. The friendly, welcoming cast members they could not stop talking about. The first time they tried ahi tuna and were genuinely shocked by how much they liked “raw” fish.

Those are the moments that made this trip so special.

Once again, Disney Cruise Line took any concern I had about a “less-than-expected” experience and completely dispelled it. Instead, they left me amazed, grateful, and already wanting to come back for more.

That’s the magic of DCL.
