Traditional shoe-tying assumes a level of fine motor precision that not every kiddo has. For a lot of children on the spectrum, that combination of holding a loop, crossing, tucking, and pulling asks for more hand strength and coordination than feels natural.

That was Tristan’s experience. He’s always had a hard time with fine motor skills, the same thing that shows up in how he holds a pencil, and doesn’t apply much pressure through his hands. The traditional method just didn’t click for him.

So we found this approach around repeatable, low-precision movements instead. No delicate loop-holding, no multi-step sequence to keep in mind all at once. Just crisscross and pull, again and again, until it becomes second nature.

He’s now fully independent tying his own shoes, and this method scales right up into a full double knot when your kiddo is ready.

Special needs travel planning by a special needs mom.

Pretty sure it doesn’t get better than that.

Throw in a former special education educator, and you get someone who mixes personal experience with real professional expertise. A whole whirlwind of it, honestly.

Tracking down safe foods for your kiddo on vacation doesn’t sound fun. So when you work with a professional, you already know where to go ahead of time. This is just one small piece of what I do for my clients every single day.
