Redwood Valley Railway Located in Tilden Regional Park at the corner of Lomas Cantadas and Grizzly Peak Blvd., in the hills above Berkeley, California.

This page is our Railroad Fan, Friend, and Shop Page. The Redwood Valley Railway is a 15 inch gauge Steam railway. The railway is internationally recognized as one of the premier "5 inch scale" narrow gauge railways of the world. The current roster consists of four operating steam locomotives. It was established in 1952 by Erich Thomsen, and has expanded to over 1.25 miles of track and ov

er 160,000 passengers a year. Our Mission has been to introduce and preserve the legacy of narrow gauge railroading, for the enjoyment of generations of visitors and Bay Area railroad enthusiasts. The RVRY has done this through creating a scale recreation of a Pacific Coast Narrow Gauge Railroad environment. The Locomotives & equipment have been meticulously built to look like Baldwin locomotives and rolling stock from 1875 to 1910. The right-of-way is lined with more than 600 coast redwood trees, specifically planted by the railway.

Our 2026 spring meet starts tomorrow morning. We will be running all of our steam locomotive fleet. We also have two visiting engines from Hillcrest Reedley.  This means 7 steam locomotives will be under steam and operating to celebrate 74 years of the Redwood Valley Railway. Come on up and see all the steam engines and celebrate with us.  We will be open from 11 AM to 6 PM Saturday and Sunday.

We are sad to announce the passing of our Chief Engineer Ray Pimlott. He was a great mentor and a friend to all of us in the RVRY family.  For many years he was the face of the Redwood Valley Railway. Our sincere condolences go out to the Pimlott family.
Rest in peace, Ray.
