In 1956, the Cessna Aircraft Company began producing the C-182, which was the tricycle gear version of the tailwheel C-180 that was first produced in 1953. The 182 became a staple of the single-engine Cessna family for its durability and load-carrying capability. It's the second most popular aircraft behind the C-172, which is THE most popular single-engine aircraft ever produced with over 44,000 made to date.
On the OBA ramp today, we have a very nice 1959 C-182. The early versions of the Cessna aircraft had straight tails. Around 1960 they transitioned to the slanted tail which can be seen on all Cessna aircraft today. And now you know.
