Is your boat ready for the water this weekend? Important tips below:
⛈️Check the forecast before you go. Inclement weather is on the horizon - it may be best to stay at the dock and await sunshine another day. Know your vessel's limits and your limits!
🛟Ensure all safety equipment is aboard. This includes life jackets for everyone (wear it!), a throwable flotation device, fire extinguishers, a sound producing device, and more!
🎙️Bring communication devices. A VHF radio is ideally suited for the marine environment. An EPIRB or PLB can automatically send us a distress signal, even if you cannot. A cell phone can be used as a backup, but you may lose reception.
📋File a float plan with a loved one who will remain ashore. Tell them key details of your voyage, including locations, description of the vessel and all occupants, and when you plan to return.
