Current situation:

It’s high tide right now, and all is remarkably well.

A bit windy, but the sun is out.

No tide on the road.

Businesses are open and people are moving about.

We have several folks at the Inn (and all of our cottages) who chose to stay and be “joyfully stuck.” (A great quote by one of our guests).

And now the island community is currently working on helping a family get organized for a 6 year olds birthday party tomorrow. Watching it unfold and being totally organized through a local fb page….everyone offering supplies, suggestions and help in every way…heartwarming. They were unable to get off the island yesterday, and now everyone is joining forces for the best impromptu island birthday celebration!

Yesterday, heedless of the wind and weather, hundreds of locals came out for a Celebration of Life for an island icon. She was one of THE most compassionate people that has ever walked the earth ~ a radiant example of being your best self. It was a come-as-you-are, potluck, share-your-stories, and hug your neighbor afternoon.

Her family repeatedly commented that she chose to live here because of “the tight fabric of the community.” That fabric was so clearly evident by the show of people, the overwhelming amount of food and the outpouring of love. So many people came together to make it happen. “It takes a village” is a very real mantra here.

On the other side of the village, a beautiful wedding was happening at the Berkeley Manor. Another gathering filled with family, friends, tremendous love and community. Another group of people making it happen for their loved ones. Another example of compassion.

All of this to say:
What storm? No storm could ever be bigger than the profound love that was felt on this island yesterday.

The monster truck “King Sling” (part of the Grave Digger family of trucks) came to town today for a visit to the school for “Touch a Truck Day”!
And is then escorted to the ferry by the fire department…right by SmacNally's.
Aways cool stuff happening on this little sandbar!
