Bergen County Complete Streets

Bergen County Complete Streets Bergen County Complete Streets was started by two cyclists and frequent pedestrians living in Fort Lee (Chris) and Wood-Ridge (Pat).

We became alarmed at the number of people getting injured and killed on our roads due to dangerous conditions. We became alarmed at the unacceptable number of people getting injured and killed on our roads due to the all-pervading dangerous conditions and decided to do something about it. Our primary goal is to get the Bergen County Board of Commissioners to enact and implement a county-wide Complete Streets policy that would apply to county “stroads.”

Hi folks! We need your help getting the Bergen County Local Safety Action Plan (LSAP) approved. The LSAP was developed by NJTPA and consultants with input from a local implementation committee to identify the worst locations in Bergen County in terms of pedestrian and cyclist safety, to reach zero serious injuries and fatalities by 2050. The finished report was handed off to the Bergen County engineering team in JULY. It still hasn’t been presented to the Commissioners for review and approval. Please sign this petition urging the County to adopt a strong LSAP as soon as possible. https://sign.moveon.org/petitions/safe-streets-for-bergen-county

HAWK beacon on Main Street (CR 51!!!) in Hackensack! Road is narrowed with installation of “protected” flower beds. (How did they get that through the county!?!?) There must be a problem with the timing though… only one person pushed the button and the light didn’t activate for at least 30 seconds. The person was long gone by then. Seems like it should be instantaneous like RRFBs. Curious to see what happens in Hackensack with a complete turnover in leadership. Shout out to for a delicious blueberry bagel that fueled my ride back home!

Please attend this virtual town hall with Steven Fulop, candidate for NJ Governor, hosted by Asbury Park Complete Streets. This event is open to the public.

Asbury Park Complete Streets Coalition was born from a simple idea — people deserve to move freely and safely from place to place.

By foot, by bike, by bus and by car, all modes of transportation deserve a place on the road. We work to help them all, especially the most vulnerable, to have a voice and be heard. If streets are safe for an 8-year-old or an 88-year-old, they are safe for everyone.
