The B team was back at it again today. During the night after I went to sleep last night I got a text from a man that I had tracked for before. I'll text him very early this morning and met him about 9:00 a.m.. the arrow looked to be stomach and liver. The hunter said that the deer only went about 30 or 40 yards and stood there for a while before he walked off. This is always a good sign that we have a good chance of getting a deer on the tailgate. Th hunting party tracked the deer last night but lost blood and called for the B Team. Ben was very excited to get another track even in this hot weather. He made quick work of this one. The hunters had actually got to within 40 yards of the deer last night but the deer had taken a hard right and they had continued to track straight ahead and we're not able to find any more blood. Ben was excited to get a short track and this was one fine deer! Total track was 180 yards.

After a long summer The B Team was back in action this morning.
I have never seen Ben so ready to track. Our hunter shot this deer late yesterday with her bow. The deer took of running very hard. After a couple of hours the hunters began to track. They found the arrow about 200 yd from the point of impact. The arrow had pe*******on about halfway up it. There was also what appeared to be a nice piece of meat on the Broadhead with dried blood.
Ben was very ready to go so after looking for a little blood at the hit site I started him. He quickly made his way to the Hunters Point of loss. He searched and searched around for about 10 minutes to finally find the exit of the deer which was at a 90° angle of the direction of travel. He had made a hard 90 and the tracking party never could pick up the trail last night. Ben straighten it right out and found this very nice book in the edge of a lake. Interesting thing is is that there was an alligator there watching the dog and the deer. It made me very nervous because I don't want to lose my dog to an alligator.
Total track was only 320 yd but what a great way to start this tracking season!

Thank you Lee and Patty.

Hello fairhful followers. As many or you know, Boone and Ben are very special hounds and their breed is rare in the US. Both of my dogs came to me from Germany through KBGS, a Club established in Germany in 1912 to keep this breed pure and within certain confirmation, obedience, tracking and disposition standards. I am privileged to serve as Vice President of the US branch of this Club, KBGS-GNA.
Last week KBGS-GNA held our Vorprufung in Williamson Georgia. This is a Preliminary Test that examines our young dogs in several categories including obedience, disposition, leash work, tracking, ability to focus on track, behavior around dead game, ten minutes Downstay after gunfire and baying live game. It is a stringent test that requires many hours of preparation. It also requires judges. We only have one qualified judge in the US, our President Ken Parker so our Parent club in Germany sent our friends Tobias and Sven to judge our five dogs.
We had two dogs pass with Breeding points and one dog pass without Breeding points.
In case you are wondering both Boone and Ben have already passed this test so they were not tested.
I carried four of my grandchildren to Georgia with me. We had a great time. I carried my camper and we stayed on site for six nights. They worked very hard helping us to stay fed and wash the dishes. They also played hard too. I am so blessed to have such great grandchildren. I wanted to provide a few pictures to show what our week was like. We have lots of fun and made some new friends but the best part of all was seeing some great dogs work! Thank you to everyone that helped make this event possible especially our judges who traveled all the way from Germany!

The B team had quite the year. We set a record for our team in total tracks taken and total deer found. Here are our numbers for the 2026-26 season.

117 tracks taken. 55 deer found 47%

Of these 117
Archery tracks 32. 17 found. 53%
Fi***rm tracks 85. 38 found. 45%

Of these not put on the tailgate
17 back on camera
7 we believe were Clean Misses
8 were jumped and couldn't get stopped

Notable memories of the year.
*in the previous 17 years of tracking i have only tailgated 1 back whacked deer (shot above the spine). This year we tailgated 4.
*1 deer that Ben tracked about 150 yards and couldn't advance any farther was found 12 days after the shot only a few feet from where he was shot. He was hit right in front of hip and just under the spine. He took many days to expire. A nightmare for deer and tracker.
*18 tracks were finished with a bay and a bang from my old 1911 .45. I am so thankful that Louisiana and Arkansas have made this legal in order to end the suffering of these great animals.

One memorable track after Christmas.
I got a call from an old friend, Jimmy Porter. His friend Phillip had arrowed a deer that they couldn't find.
Ben represented the B team again. Nearly 7 hours post shot Ben encountered this buck who was still much alive. Ben got him to stop twice before the deer headed for the Old Mississippi River Chute. While i was hurrying to catch up with Ben, he put the deer in the Chute. When i caught up to see what was going on I was afraid for Ben's life since i have never considered him a strong swimmer. He looked like he was a mile away but was only about 120 yards. To my surprise Ben drowned the deer. I was hiding and being very quiet because I wanted Ben to go to the other side since he was only about 20 yards from the bank. As soon as he drowned the deer, he circled the deer and headed back to the bank I was standing on. We then began to encourage him and follow him down the bank since the current was carrying him Downstream. He made it just fine. I will no longer question his swimming ability. Good boy Ben.

This tracking season was a very good one. We appreciate every one of you that trusted us to find your trophy. We hope to see you again next year!

One more thing. If we tracked for you this year or in the ast would you please take time to review us on our page please. It would mean a lot to us if you would take time to do that! Thank you!

I will have another summary post when I get timebut I must tell this story. The B Team arrived at this teack for Richard about 11am today, roughly 19 hours after the arrow made contact with this awsome Buck. Richard, the hunter, stated he had shot the deer facing him and didn't get a pass through. He also said that the deer lunged forward after the shot, hit the ground. Then down in the front end, pushed his way forward, eventually getting up on all 4 legs to run out of sight. Richard and friends followed a good blood trail a pretty good ways, losing it in a grown up open field and finding the fletching end of the arrow. Ben started strong and we were not waisting any time following behind. This deer bedded around 800 yards into the track . At this point Ben had his first search, found the exit, tracked him 300 yards and came back to me. This usually means we are not finding the deer. As you know it was hot and humid today so I gave Ben a drink, lethim rest a bit and encouraged him to try to advance the track. Once he started back we continued to find blood easily. The deer entered the field again. I saw nothing that made me think we would recover this deer. But low and behold at 1.08 miles from the hitsite, Ben began to Bay this deer. I hurried to Bens rescue and slipped in for the shot. Ben had put his skills to work and put this deer on the tailgate.

If you will look at the entrance wound you will see that it is close to the jugular vein. I suspect that this broadhead nicked the jugular causing this deer to lose enough blood to become very weak. Also you can see on the shoulder where the mechanical Broadhead somehow cut the hide where it poked through the hide. This cut was about 10 inches long. I have no idea how it did this.

Richard and the rest of us got to see Ben put on a tracking and baying class on this Mississippi River Stud.

The B team is having a record setting year. On Christmas Day we had found 44 deer of 92 tracks. Ben is doing most of the heavy lifting while Boone is enjoying being just like me, mostly retired.

Here is a summary of our tracks between December 14th and December 25th. We did not track December 20th through the 25th because we had too many family gatherings to fit that in. If we were not able to get to you we apologize but we sure did enjoy the break and our family!

We tracked 11 deer.
We tailgated only 4 deer. All 4 required Ben to use his excellent baying skills and my model 1911 45.
Of the ones we didn't find, some were tracked a long way.
1000 yards, 1100 yards, 8/10 mile, .98 mile and 300 yards.

The ri**es produce many non fatal shots so it's not uncommon to have streaks with very few finds but Ben and Boone did excellent work.

One of the dear we found was an archery, liver shot. Ben was put to work 12 hours after the shot and found the deer $450 yards down the trail. The deer round another 150 yd, Brian caught up and finished the deal.

Another one that Ben had to be was for an 11-year-old who had made a bad shot a deer the day before. Ben came in on this one 18 hours after the shot and found it 250 yd away still alive but very weak. Again Brian had to catch up and help put this one on the tailgate with his 45.

The next one we showed up only 6 hours after the shot and our hunter had only found a few drops of blood about 80 yards from the hit site. Then tracked this deer very slowly to their point of loss and then continued to find the deer alive only 40 yards from where I parked my truck. The deer had a broken front leg. The woods were open and I could not get close enough to finish with my pistol. The deer broke into an open field and I was able to get the hunters r***e to finish this deer from about 80 yards. Then again showing his excellent baying skills.

The last one we found during this stretch was began 5 hours after the shot. Ben tracked about 400 yd and some thick CRP to find this deer very much alive. Ben gave Chase and the deer actually almost ran over us but went back into the CRP and ran close to a house and actually made within yards of the backyard. He was only about 75 yards from a pretty busy road as well. I was able to get out the 45 once again. These are very exciting and this deer went a total of 1200 yards.

We dont get them all but we give it our best.

The B Team has lots of Christmas activities going on this week. We will not be tracking on monday, Wednesday or Thursday at all and we will only have limited availability on Tuesday. This is a fun time of the year. Enjoy your families and remember that Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit In the Womb of the Virgin Mary. He was born and laid in a manger. He lived a sinless life but died a cruel death, taking my sin and nailing it to the cross of Calvary! I am so thankful that he came as a babe because that was prophesied and fulfilled but I am so thankful that he did not remain a babe but Took My Punishment and became my substitute. My propitiation! My faith is in him righteousness! My prayer of this Christmas season is that your faith is in Jesus Christ as your substitute and propitiation! Praise God that he sent Jesus Christ to save Sinners Like Me! Merry Christmas!

The week of December 8th-13th was a trying one. The B Team went on 8 tracks and put 3 deeron the tailgate.
We had 2 clean misses and 3 that we think will live to see another day.

Our first trip to the tailgate was a deer that was supposd to be a quartering away shot that ener up being a Texas heart shot. This deer only went 225 yards but the hunter couldn't find enough blood to find him because he hardly bled. Thankful Ben at 16 hours post shot didnt need blood to tailgate this nice deer.

Our next was for my son-in-law Justin who arrowed a nice 8 point. Justin followed lots of blood for 100 yards. At that point Ben figured out that the buck make a 90° turn and folder up after another 100 yards. Congratulations Justin.

Lastly we finished up the week for Whitney who had used her r***e to shoot a really nice 8 point. This deer hit the grou and laid in the potato pile for a couple minutes then got up nd run off. Our only hope was Ben and his ability to get him stopped . Well Ben didn't disappoint. He encountered the Buck at 500 yards and stopped him at 1400 yards to give us the opportunity to stop the pain. Congratulations Whitney.

All in all a good week. This makes us 37/79 on the year thus far with lots of season to go. The B Team has been busy.
