On Saturday, May 27, 2023, around 9:46AM, Novato Police Officers observed a suspicious vehicle, occupied on Binford Rd. A routine check of the vehicle’s registration was conducted, and false registration tabs were located on the vehicle.

The person inside the vehicle was contacted and identified as a 44-year-old, male. Further investigation confirmed the man was currently on CDCR Parole. During a search of his vehicle NPD officers located a sword that was disguised as a walking cane with an ornate metal handle. Based on the officer's training and experience, it is known that these types of weapons contain a handle that unscrews revealing a 18.5” sword with a double-edged blade affixed to the handle.

The individual was safely booked in the Marin County jail for possession of a weapon and false tabs on his vehicle. Reporting suspicious activities helps all of us create a safer Novato by calling 415-897-4361. In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
