A school bus aide helps the bus driver transport students to and from school safely. They also help maintain discipline and order on the bus.
Responsibilities
Assist students with boarding and exiting the bus
Help students with special needs, such as wheelchairs, braces, or crutches
Help the driver with loading and unloading students
Ensure students are secured in the proper seats and with the correct safety devices
Help the driver maintain a clean bus
Report incidents to the driver and school staff
Assist the driver with emergency evacuation drills
Learn bus routes, schedules, and pickup points
Keep up with route and bus stop changes
Skills and qualifications
Good communication skills
Ability to handle difficult situations
Ability to work in noisy and crowded environments
Ability to lift, carry, pull, and push heavy objects
Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, turn, reach, climb, and balance
Ability to work indoors and outdoors
Other requirements
Proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
Clearance from a criminal record history check
Proof of adequate health to perform the job
Passing a state-required Mantoux Intradermal Tuberculin Test
