Warm weather is here and boating season is calling… but before you untie the lines, take a moment to think about what this past winter may have done to your boat.

Now is the time to check your raw water supply lines, valves, and bilge pump hoses. Because a bilge pump with a bad hose isn’t really a pump—it’s more like a very dedicated water circulator.

Take a few minutes to add some water to the bilge and run the pump. Make sure the water is actually leaving the boat and not just taking a tour of the bilge. While you’re at it, check your washdown and other water hoses for cracks or damage from freezing temperatures.

A quick check now can save you from an unexpected “why are my feet wet?” moment on your first trip out. Stay safe and enjoy the season.
