Norfolk Barge Company We lease barges: both Classed & Unclassed - Flatdeck, Crane and Spud barges. Our fleet ranges in size from 24’x12’x3’6” to 160’x54'x8' ([email protected])

Established in 1917, originally named Norfolk Towing and Lighterage Inc., Norfolk Barge Company has been a trusted source of flat deck and spud barge rentals up and down the East Coast for over 100 years now. We are located in Norfolk Virginia on the Elizabeth River. We are affiliated with Colonna's Shipyard, which is where our office is located. We have a great working relationship with Colonna's

Shipyard, specifically their Steel America division that has built some of our barges. Our President, Billy Colonna III has been working for decades with Norfolk Barge. He is a very trusted and hard working man, with strong business values. ([email protected])

Our General Manager Wanda Drees has been very important to our company. She is an ODU graduate and stays very busy being the backbone of our little company.

The Inland Marine Expo 2026 was a success.
In his opening remarks Matthew Woodruff stressed the importance of the Jones Act and asked for our assistance with ending the waiver by going to Endthewaiver.com

Workforce development is a passion of mine and I was introduced to a non profit education organization dedicated to introducing the students and career seekers to the maritime industry.

I met with the Women in Maritime Operations and .org Ministry on the River.

It was a pleasure speaking with people from located on the US Gulf Coast like Colonna's Shipyard they are a family owned and operated business.

I had an insightful conversation regarding entrepreneurship with the owner of a waste water treatment system company.

The Inland Marine Expo was an incredibly productive and successful event. I came away with new industry insight, meaningful connections, and appreciation for the collaborative spirit of the inland marine community. There are so many companies and associations to talk about. I will create follow up posts!

Demonstrating the importance of communication on the waterways. Cory Drees and Ryan Payne you two were in my thoughts, amazing rope handling skills.
