It’s time to check on your circulation pump!

Make sure it’s in good working condition before you discover it wasn’t 😩

One of the main issues during the winter months is failed pumps or failed power connections to pumps, resulting in costly repairs of both domestic lines and service lines to the house.

Stay ahead of the game, check on your pumps and connections!

NSEDC SPECIAL ENERGY SUBSIDY – UPDATE

A quick update for our customers regarding the 2026 NSEDC Special Energy Subsidy:

The application period closed on September 17, and NJUS has now completed and submitted our customer list to NSEDC for review and approval. We were also able to add a number of eligible customers who had missed the regular Energy Subsidy application period earlier this year.

What happens next?

NSEDC will review the submitted list and provide final approval. Once that process is complete and the subsidy funds are transferred, NJUS will apply the credits directly to eligible customer accounts. Because our September statements will be processed very soon, we do not expect the Special Energy Subsidy credit to appear on the September 30 statement. That does not mean you were missed!

NSEDC, the City of Nome, and NJUS are working to get these assistance credits to eligible households as quickly as possible. We currently expect credits to be applied around October 15, and hopefully sooner. We appreciate everyone's patience while the final review and funding process is completed, and we'll provide another update once the credits are ready to be applied.

And again, a BIG THANK YOU to NSEDC, its Board and Staff for making this additional assistance available to our community!

We’re looking at pretty significant sustained winds between Thursday and Friday this week.

NJUS does not anticipate any issues with our utilities, but we want to take this opportunity to remind everyone to secure their belongings and address any potentially loose items, such as roof panels.

Roof panels blowing off during storms are one of the main reasons NJUS needs to dispatch our crews, and they can cause significant damage to our power lines.

Thank you for helping us keep Nome safe!

2026 NSEDC ENERGY SUBSIDY UPDATE

NJUS has been notified by NSEDC of the 2026 Special Energy Subsidy Distribution for our community through the Community Benefit Share (CBS) Program.

NJUS is currently working with the City of Nome to make the process as simple as possible for our customers. The good news is that many of you will not need to do anything!

If you signed up for the NSEDC Regular Energy Subsidy earlier this year, you do not need to apply again. We already have the information needed to process the new subsidy once the program is finalized.

For customers who have opened a new eligible account since the earlier subsidy, don't worry, you won't be left out. NJUS and the City will provide information on how to sign up and make sure eligible customers have an opportunity to participate.

We are still working through the final details, so please keep an eye on the NJUS page for more information.

A big THANK YOU to NSEDC and its Board and Staff for once again providing this assistance to our community! It is greatly appreciated.

Please pay attention to the upcoming weather and take a few minutes to secure things around your property.

During high-wind events, one of the more common problems we see at the utility is loose roofing or metal panels blowing off buildings and into power lines. Besides causing outages, this can create a serious electrical hazard.

Before the winds pick up:

* Tie down or bring inside anything that could blow away.
* Check roofs, sheds, and other outbuildings for loose panels or materials.
* Secure trash cans, lumber, equipment, and other items around your property.
* Stay well away from any downed or damaged power lines and report them immediately.

A little preparation ahead of the storm can prevent damage, outages, and potentially dangerous situations.

Stay safe and keep an eye on the weather over the next few days.

Water samples processed by NSHC’s Office of Environmental Health tested negative for Total Coliform and E. coli.
(Have to appreciate having this quick resource in the region!)
While this was expected, a confirmation is always good.
