Hey everyone, starting this fall, as long as everything continues the way it is, 5GR will be starting a program for new recruits:

If you have your basic wool uniform (with 5GR Litzen), undershirt, boots, and headwear. We will provide you with field gear equipment that you may use during the event and make payments on. You may use the equipment during the event, but the equipment goes home with 5GR until it gets paid off, then it goes home with you. The package deal will include:

Belt
Leg Wraps
Bread Bag
Canteen(s) - 2 Max
Shovel carrier - M.1916
Bayonet Frog M.88/98 or 98/05
M17 Gasmask Can w/Straps
1909 ammunition pouches (infantrie) - optional
P08 Holsters (crewer) - optional

5GR membership prices would be applicable. This offer will not be offered to none 5GR members

So something that bothers me in the hobby in general is how sometimes you will talk to some of these people. Very patriotic, and loves talking about the hobby. But then you mention 'I reenact WW1 German' or 'I collect WW1 German' their entire demeanor and attitude towards me changes. In the sense of me being dirty, as if I betrayed my country.

For anyone that thinks I am doing bad for not being a American reenactor, get your head out of your ass. What matters is not a twice a year LARP costume, but who you are on the inside. I like reenacting as a member of the Kaiser's Armee, very true - but honestly, I am an American in heart, mind, and body.

So 5GR now has a way to differ our Minenwerfer Troops from the other branches. The MWA stands for Minen-Werfer-Abteilung.
During the war there were unofficial sleeve patches that was worn. If there was an Abteilung number at all, it was normally shown on the sleeve patch. Please note that only Garde units had no unit numbers.

As a official gwa unit, 5gr is open for recruitment.
