Newport News Fire Department - Unofficial Protecting the city since 1891.. Established in 1891, the NNFD provides Fire/EMS services to the citizens and visitors of the City of Newport News.

Consisting of 11 Engine Companies, 6 Truck Companies, 2 Rescue Companies, 12 Medics, 2 Battalion Chiefs and 2 EMS supervisors. Over 350 men and women work 24/7 to save lives and protect property within the city limits and beyond. In addition, the department also consists of 4 specialty teams to include Technical Rescue, Haz-mat, Bomb Squad, and Marine Incident Response Team.

Engine 10 ( A shift ) with fire showing from side alpha. It was reported that two children were possibly inside. Engine 10 and Rescue 2 made quick work of the fire while completing primary and secondary searches. Both searches were negative.

Working fire (A shift) on Tuesday morning in the 600 block of 35th Street. Engine company 2 was on scene within minutes to find a 1 story wood frame with fire showing from side alpha. The fire was knocked quickly.

Hats off to the two sailors who pulled out the elderly resident just prior to the first due engine's arrival.

On Friday June 20th, both Rescue Companies as well as Tech 10 worked diligently to extricate a driver who was severely pinned in an overturned tractor trailer. Engine companies from 4 and 5 assisted with extrication efforts as well as assisting with setting up a landing zone on Interstate 64. Job well done by all responding companies.
