James Fuentes is thrilled to present Lola Stong-Brett: Sometime Somewhere Someone Is Dancing, opening June 26 in New York. Marking her debut in the United States, this presentation features large-scale canvases where gestural abstraction meets cartoon-like figures (including a recurring Popeye) to explore connection, intimacy, and loss through ocean imagery. Her mark-making draws on diaristic writing, tattoo culture, and art history to create something that feels both deeply personal and completely original.

Gerald Wartofsky’s “On Gustav Mahler: The Song of the Earth” reimagines Mahler’s song-symphony Das Lied von der Erde (1908–09) in visual terms. The symphony turned poems from Hans Bethge’s Die chinesische Flöte (1907) into a meditation on transience, nature, longing, and farewell, in turn providing Wartofsky with guiding principles.
