Washington, D.C. rewards people who know where to stand. Swipe through and see for yourself: each map marks the exact spot, and the photo right after it is the view you actually get there.

The cherry blossoms peak from the south end of the Tidal Basin. The Georgetown skyline turns cinematic from Theodore Roosevelt Island. The Capitol frames perfectly near the Peace Monument. And for that postcard sunset, the Reflecting Pool is where locals actually go, watching the Washington Monument catch the light with the Capitol behind it.

Twenty-five years ago today, we lost 2,977 people — in New York, at the Pentagon, and over a field in Pennsylvania, where ordinary passengers decided the plane would go no further.

Today, Lower Manhattan pauses. Names are read aloud, one by one, by the families who carry them. Tonight, two beams of light will rise into the sky where the towers once stood, visible for miles — a reminder that some things are held onto, not left behind.

Ask a first-time visitor where to find green space in New York and you'll hear the same two words: Central Park. And they're right. We could spend a whole day there and never run out of things to show them.

Here's what most travelers never get told: the park doesn't end at the park.

A few blocks southwest, the High Line runs a garden thirty feet above the West Side on an old freight rail line. Downtown, the arch at Washington Square Park frames the Empire State Building like it was placed there on purpose. Cross into Brooklyn and a red torii gate stands over a quiet pond at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, minutes from the busiest streets in the borough. Ride up to the Bronx and you'll find a Gilded Age glass conservatory at the New York Botanical Garden that looks like it belongs in a European capital.

Same city. Same trip. A version of New York your clients could never have found on their own.

The world lost one of its brightest lights today.

Dolly Parton passed away peacefully on August 25, 2026, at the age of 80. A singer, songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and one of the most genuinely beloved human beings this country has ever known.

She wrote hundreds of songs. She gave away millions of books. She showed up for her community in ways that went far beyond her music. And through it all, she did it with warmth, wit, and a smile that made everyone around her feel like family.

At American Stories Travel, we are proud to call Nashville one of our destinations. A city that Dolly shaped, championed, and loved deeply. Her presence in that city and in this country will be felt for a very long time.
