Last stop: Melbourne!
The second largest urban agglomeration in the country after Sydney, “Greater Melbourne” has 4,968,000 inhabitants. Melbourne was founded by free settlers in 1835, 47 years after the first European penal colony was established in Sydney, as an agricultural development area around the Yarra River. The city quickly transformed into a metropolis during the Victorian gold rush in the 1850s. Melbourne is an important commercial, industrial and cultural center. The city is often referred to as the "sporting and cultural" capital of Australia.
Tired of van life, we returned it with a week's notice in order to relax and rest in real, more comfortable accommodation. We will explore the city according to our motivation and depending on the weather, alternating as usual between cultural or artistic visits inside and visits to heritage and architecture outside.
After a week in Melbourne, it is time for us to say goodbye to Australia that we traveled for 50 days, over 7000km, from the north east to the south. You followed it, the weather was not ideal and probably tarnished our experience, but that does not take away the beauty and diversity of the country!
See you again dear Australia!
