Day 10 of our YTM Ancient & Beyond series. Heading from Istanbul to NYC in style.

TK business class is on a whole other level. We took advantage of the Turkish Airlines Gate 5 private entrance and checked out the massive business lounge, which is basically a food lover's paradise complete with private chefs.
After sampling a bit of everything, it was time to board our 10-hour flight.

Reclining into a lie-flat bed with five-star service at 30,000 feet—meaning our sleep schedule was totally sacrificed, as our time was occupied trying to experience every luxury they had to offer.

Day 9 of our YTM Ancient & Beyond series. It was officially shopping day at the historic bazaars, and let’s just say for Lili, every day is a shopping day. We bought so much that an extra suitcase quickly became an absolute necessity.

After a full day of shopping and a full suitcase, we needed a drink, so we headed straight up to the hotel rooftop. That plan ended quickly when they handed us a ridiculous, overpriced wine pour. We immediately walked right back down to the street for a three-dollar local fish wrap instead—which was delicious and much more our speed.

Next stop: Turkish Airlines business class.

Day 8 of our YTM Ancient & Beyond series. First stop: Istanbul underground. We went deep into an ancient Roman cistern and came eye-to-eye with Medusa.

After heading back up to the surface, we made our way to the Süleymaniye Mosque — breathtaking. We also tracked down the second of four famous obelisks of our journey, before checking out Galata Tower from the outside only. A one-hour wait? Hard pass.

We thought we had officially mastered Istanbul transit until we boarded a ferry at sunset and realized we were on the wrong boat.

Day 7 of our YTM Ancient & Beyond series. Arrived in Istanbul. We skipped the taxi for the metro and checked into our home base on the European side.

Nobody warned us about the hills in Istanbul. So we switched to the tram and let it do the work, making our way toward our first stop: the legendary Blue Mosque.

Day 6 of our YTM Ancient & Beyond series. We started the morning walking among giants at Karnak and ended it standing in line with the kings of Luxor Temple.

Sunrise in Luxor, sunset over an ancient empire. What an amazing experience. Now it is time to leave the land of the pharaohs.
Next stop: Istanbul.
