Last week, airport staff had the incredible honor of being invited for a short flight on the Goodyear blimp while it was stationed at our airport for Speedweeks.

Since these flights are strictly invitation-only, we feel so lucky to have had the chance to see our town from a different perspective. It was a smooth, beautiful and absolutely unforgettable ride. Huge thanks to the Goodyear team for the opportunity of a lifetime!

While our friends at airports up north are busy with snow plows and de-icing fluid, we’re taking full advantage of this beautiful weather to give Runway 11/29 a makeover. Our partners at Hi-Lite are currently on-site, using specialized high-powered pressure washing equipment to strip away dirt and mildew and laying down fresh, crisp paint to ensure every runway line is as bright as this Florida afternoon.
📏 Why It Matters
Maintaining this 4,319-foot runway isn’t just about aesthetics, it’s about safety and precision. The FAA has strict standards for runway markings (FAA AC 150/5340-1), which dictate everything from the exact width of the stripes to the reflectivity of the paint. These markings:
• Enhance Pilot Visibility: Providing clear cues during takeoff and landing.
• Prevent Incursions: Ensuring ground traffic knows exactly where to stop.
• Meet Safety Compliance: Keeping our airport up to the highest national standards.

Keeping our pavement in top shape is just one of the ways we execute our mission of being a safe and efficient aeronautical gateway to our city and community. 🛫

What a treat to have this beautiful 1954 Beechcraft D18S (Twin Beech) drop in, sporting the iconic polished finish and dual-tail design. Just listen to the sound of those twin radial engines; a true piece of of flying history right here in our backyard!
