❗📗Environmental Impact Report Incoming❗

The numbers are in, and we’re excited to share them with you. From January to June of this year, Schmelly’s has picked up 165,001 gallons of organic material 🥕, which converts to a whopping 1,376,108 lbs of waste that would have otherwise gone to the landfill 🗑️.

That number translates to a sequestration of 3,577,881 lbs of CO2 💨 that would have been released into the atmosphere, which is the work of 65,042 trees 🌳!

With this waste, we generated 454,115 lbs of compost,🐛 which is enough to support the growth of 43,665 tomato plants 🍅.

It feels good to compost with you, New Orleans.🤝

i find it hard to capture the entirety of our compost site in a photograph. we bring in 4+ tons of food scraps each day & maintaining the health microbial ecosystem so we can make good compost & help farmers grow more food. its a beautiful place & we want everyone to see it & learn how this is something everyone can do everywhere, even in yr backyard.

summer is here 🌻 we'll be harder to reach in July as we are taking breaks to fix broken stuff, rest & follow other passions in life. we are still here, resting & getting ready for fall season 💚

we're looking to hire someone temporarily to help us with driving on our compost pickup routes in June. experience with a small trailer & pickup truck in the city required. you'll be working outdoors in all weather moving heavy rolling cans with a work mate. please DM if interested! references are helpful!
