We are so happy to say Liam is found and safe. Please help with his medical care.
Liam went missing from his brand new adopter’s home on the evening of October 15th. Twelve days later, on the morning of October 27th, he was found in the basement of a parking garage in the CBD. Twelve days of the most exhausting and tremendous rescue effort. We had sightings in every single part of this city. We had leads that lead to the discovery of MANY other black stray dogs in the city (and even the rescue of one, aptly named Notliam). Endless phone calls and texts at every hour of every day. We had posters plastered over every inch of this town. There isn’t a person in Nola who hasn’t heard of Liam.
We were immensely uplifted by the outpouring of support and volunteer help. And also completely defeated by the days that passed with no luck and no confirmed sightings. As time went on, it got harder and harder to stay positive. Liam came from a presumably rough and abusive past, which made it all the more heartbreaking.
It feels surreal in this moment and it is difficult to believe that the mad chase is over. But he is safe, he is well, and he is very very loved by a whole lot of people.
There are so many people we would like to thank for their incredible efforts over the past twelve days, from the volunteers who stayed out at all hours of the night hoping for a Liam sighting to the businesses such as Pack Rat Shipping, AmeriPrint and Champion Graphics, Inc. who donated flyers and posters. We’re so thankful for amazing donors such as Heather Prinz Phillips and Krista Lewis who also helped with the purchase of additional flyers and material. We’re beyond grateful for Lise Leveque for donating the trap that helped us catch Notliam. There are truly just so many people we would like to give thanks to that we couldn’t even begin to name everyone.
Liam will need a whole lot of medical care and is currently at Metairie Small Animal Hospital where his treatment has already begun. For anyone who may not have seen the earlier posts, he was hit by a car on one of the first days of his grand adventure. Thankfully, no major organs were impacted, but he does have a fractured femur which will require an FHO surgery. Unsurprisingly, he was also very dehydrated when found. His beautiful coat is matted with dirt caked on him. In addition, he also has wounds and a very severe infection from the bellyband.
As of right now, his estimated recovery costs are around $3000. For anyone wishing to donate towards this, please know that we’re immensely grateful for every single dollar. Donations can be made via his Facebook post, Instagram post, our Venmo ( - look under business accounts) or our PayPal ([email protected]).
We’re also adding a wishlist below that includes items such as Air Tags and a hunting camera that may help with future escape artists:
