Berard OnTheMove Newsletter - May 2026
When a Texas-based construction company was tasked with relocating a long-standing pedestrian bridge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, they quickly recognized that Berard Transportation was the right partner for the job. During the initial site meeting, the original plan called for removing the 150-foot bridge from a busy roadway and setting it into a nearby parking lot, where it would be dismantled into 40-foot sections for transport. However, Berard's project management team identified a more efficient solution—transporting the bridge in a single piece using a steerable dolly system. The team successfully removed the bridge from its original position, staged it for roadway preparation, and transported it safely along the highway to its final destination in Austin, Texas.
The Berard team competed for the highest honor in the heavy transport industry at the annual SC&RA Conference, and we’re proud to say, they brought home the GOLD. Even more meaningful, this year’s conference was held in Amelia Island, just 25 minutes from where this incredible project took place, bringing the recognition right back to the jobsite where it all happened. In 2025, Berard was tasked with assembling a 25,000-ton shiplift system comprising 27 massive modules, all within an aggressive 28-day deadline. Our team immediately mobilized and developed a precise plan to execute one of the most complex projects in our field. The operation required transporting and installing each section in sequence, using a combination of SPMTs, barges, and crane operations, often within a narrow one-hour tide window and with tolerances as tight as ¼ inch. With limited clearances, strict noise restrictions, and highly coordinated multi-phase lifts, every detail mattered.
In other SC&RA news, Berard Transportation is proud to share that Brett Berard has been elected Chair of the Specialized Carriers & Rigging Association (SC&RA) Transportation Group for the 2026–2027 term. Brett has been actively involved in SC&RA for years, and this role reflects his ongoing commitment to the industry and the relationships built along the way. As Chair, he looks forward to working closely with peers across the country to address challenges, share ideas, and continue moving the industry forward. “I'm proud to lead this group as we work to improve safety and efficiency of specialized and oversize transportation across the country,” Brett said. “I'm grateful for the trust my industry colleagues have placed in me.” This opportunity means a great deal to Brett, and Berard is proud to support him in this leadership role.
