L88 update and Volunteer Request
The New Cuyama Airport (L88) is still closed, but the repairs and some improvements are nearing completion! There is still heavy equipment work going on, therefore the airport remains unsafe for landing.
However, there are some simple, but important tasks we would like to ask volunteers to help us complete so we can call for an airport inspection. We have chosen to Saturday, September 12th for the effort. We are still working on the details, but please mark the date in your calendars.
Date: Saturday, September 12th, start time approx 8:00-8:30
Tasks:
• Sanding portions of the runway, taxiway and ramp pavement.
• Tumbleweed patrol and weeding. A skip-loader will address most of the large weeds, but a group of folks with shovels and pitchforks will be needed to help with that.
• Miscellaneous other tasks (usually something needs addressing).
Event sign-ups and updates:
If you plan on attending, drop an email to [email protected] with your contact info and we will notify you of all event updates via email or by text.
Getting there and lodgings:
• Drive-ins are welcome.
• Details for flying in are still in the works. Look for a future update with details.
• Camping and the dorm rooms at Blue Sky Center are free to registered volunteers for Friday night (for registration information contact [email protected])
Thank You!
