Today, on International Workers’ Day, Greece slows down. Shops close. Tables fill. Conversations stretch. Time (REAL time) returns.

And it raises a simple question:
When was the last time you stepped out of doing… and into actually being?

Most people don’t have a work problem. They have a pace problem. Even our vacations feel rushed, packed, performative.

That’s exactly why we created The Art of Slowing Down: A Greek Island Wine Cruise. August 21 -28, 2026

Days shaped by the sea, not the clock.
Long meals, real connection, space to breathe. Because slowing down isn’t a luxury. It’s something we’ve forgotten how to do.

If this resonates, comment SLOW and I’ll send you more info in a private message.

xoxo,
Amalia

p.s. so you can put a face to the post, that’s me honoring the Greek tradition of picking wildflowers today, May 1st in the second photo.

We’ve gotten used to thinking the itinerary is the experience.

That if we just follow the plan closely enough—arrive on time, check every box, move efficiently from one “must-see” to the next—we’ll arrive at something meaningful.

But it rarely works like that.

Because the moments that stay with you don’t announce themselves. They happen when something interrupts the plan: a swim you didn’t expect to take, a table that stretches longer than intended, a turn that leads somewhere better.

Not everything worth experiencing fits inside a plan. It asks a little more of you.

To leave space.
To say yes when it would be easier not to.
To step just far enough outside your routine that something unexpected can find you.

And more often than not, that something ends up being someone.

And then you feel it. Like you’ve arrived somewhere familiar, even if you’ve never been there before.

That’s where it happens.

Not in the schedule, but in the space around it.

Somewhere along the way, it starts to feel like home.

There is a version of you
that isn’t rushing.

She moves slower.
She notices more.
She feels her life as she’s living it.

She’s still there.

This is your invitation to return.

Travel booking behavior is changing fast.

Recent YouGov research shows that 35% of travelers now book just 1–3 months before departure, compared with only 23% who still plan 4–6 months ahead. Looking ahead, that 1–3 month window is expected to grow even further, reaching 39% of travelers.

This confirms what many of us in the industry are already seeing in real time: the traditional 6-month planning horizon is steadily giving way to a far more flexible 3-month decision cycle.

In my latest article on LinkedIn, I explore why this shift may actually be the best of all worlds for travelers: more time to decide, less pressure to commit too early, and, when working with the right travel partner, the reassurance that availability and experience quality are already secured.

For clients considering our upcoming escapes, this trend is especially relevant. The current booking rhythm still allows the flexibility of thoughtful decision-making, while keeping the confidence that the journey itself is already protected.

Sending positive travel vibes,
Amalia

Over the past few years, one trend has become increasingly clear: travelers are waiting longer to make decisions. The traditional 6–8 month booking window is no longer the norm.

“As you set out for Ithaka
hope the journey is a long one,
full of adventure, full of discovery.”
— Constantine P. Cavafy

The older I get, the more certain I become of this truth:
it’s not the things we collect that shape us. It’s the experiences that soften us, challenge us, and remind us we’re not alone.

At Agape Escapes, our trips aren’t really about the destination.
They’re not about the perfectly framed photo of the Santorini caldera (though it is beautiful).
They’re about the moments in between.

The conversation over wine with someone you just met, sharing perimenopause symptoms and realizing you’re not imagining it.
Venting (and laughing) about screen time rules that somehow never stick.
Speaking honestly about the weight of raising a child alone, and being truly heard.
Ordering in Greek with a terrible accent and laughing until your sides hurt.
Choosing to be Team Carry-On and discovering how little you actually need... and how freeing that can feel.

These are the moments that stay.

I bring my own quiet imprint into every Agape Escape: subtle, intentional, rooted. A steady presence woven into the itinerary, leaving space for connection to unfold naturally.

And alongside me is our founder and co-host, Matchmaker Maria: bold, magnetic, and wonderfully dynamic. Her energy sparks courage, movement, and inspiration. Together, we create balance: calm and fire, reflection and momentum.

As we step into this new year, may your journey be long.
May it be filled with laughter, honesty, lightness, and depth.
And may you collect fewer things.

And many more moments.

✨ Wishing you a new year full of meaningful journeys and beautiful becoming. ✨

Yia mas! (Cheers!),

Amalia

Has social media ruined Greece?

It’s a question I’ve been thinking about a lot.

From overcrowded viewpoints and rushed experiences to destinations turning into backdrops instead of places, something has shifted in the way we travel. Greece, in particular, has been transformed by viral moments and picture-perfect expectations.

But there’s another way to experience it.

At Agape Escapes, we intentionally choose sustainable tourism, never the all-inclusive option at resorts, always the local economy. That means staying connected to the places we visit: shopping at mom-and-pop stores, eating at small family-run tavernas, and even spending the week with the same driver (long enough to know his story and meet his family).

Soon, I’ll be sharing an article exploring this question honestly: what’s been lost, what still exists, and how Greece can still be experienced in a way that feels real, respectful, and deeply human - all while indulging in all the luxurious amenities it has to offer.

If you’re curious what I really mean by this, book a call with me, and you’ll get exactly what I’m saying. I've been told my enthusiasm is contagious. 😉

Because Greece is so much more than a photo. Or even a video. (Yasou Yiorgo!)
And the real magic is still there... If you choose to travel differently.

Amalia

✨ To the Empty Nesters This Holiday Season ✨

For years, your calendar revolved around school schedules, sports practices, college visits, and family traditions.
You poured your time, energy, and love into raising incredible humans.

And now… the house is quieter.

If you’re an empty nester, this season of life isn’t about loss. It’s about possibility.

Instead of another gift that gathers dust, what if you gave yourself an experience?
Time to reconnect.
Time to explore.
Time just for you.

As CEO of Agape Escapes, I design stress-free, intentional travel for people who’ve spent decades putting others first. Travel that’s thoughtful, immersive, and deeply personal.

I also bring something a little different to the table. I made the conscious choice to move to Greece 18 years ago, and never looked back. Living here has shaped how I design travel: beyond the highlights, into the heart of the culture, the food, the pace, and the places that truly matter. No two escapes are the same, because no two travelers are.

If Greece has been calling you, or if you’re simply ready to explore what this next chapter could look like, I’d love to help.

✨ Schedule a call with me to find the escape that best suits your needs, your pace, and your dreams for this season of life.

You’ve taken care of everyone else.
Now it’s time to do something just for you.

A little planning goes a long way when it comes to flights ✈️

Thinking ahead, weighing your options, and booking with intention can make the journey just as enjoyable as the destination 🏝

And let’s be honest ... Greece has a way of making the return flight feel optional 😉 🇬🇷

Save these tips for later, share with your travel buddy, and see you in Greece? 👀
