A Meaningful Start to the Season

This past weekend marked the start of the season on the water, with two burial-at-sea services held off the New Hampshire Seacoast.

Each service was a solemn and respectful gathering—families coming together to honor the lives of those they love, and to return them to the sea.

On Saturday, we worked carefully with the wind and swell to ensure a steady, comfortable experience for all aboard. After the ceremony, we were able to make our way to the Isles of Shoals, where the quiet strength and beauty of the ocean offered a fitting backdrop for reflection.

Sunday brought calmer conditions and a gentle day on the water. Following the service, we spent some time near Duck Island, where a group of seals rested along the rocks—a peaceful and grounding moment to close the experience.

“We return them to the sea, from which all life began. May they find peace in the vast embrace of these waters.”

It is a privilege to help families say their final goodbyes in such a timeless and meaningful way.

Wishing all fair winds and following seas.

What an absolute honor today to take 93-year-old Phyllis out for a special charter. 🌊⚓️ With the help of her family, we got her aboard and cruised the inshore waters — visiting the Wood Island Life-Saving Station, Pepperrell Cove in Kittery, the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, lighthouses, forts, and other points of interest.

From the water, we had a truly unique vantage point, and Phyllis loved every minute. She said she wants to come back out again. Seeing her joy and gratitude made this trip one I’ll never forget. ❤️

Birthday vibes on the Sara Rose! 🎉
What better way to celebrate than a sunny day on the water with your closest friends? This past Saturday, we had six amazing women aboard the MV Sara Rose for an unforgettable birthday cruise. From scenic harbor views to a perfect spread and plenty of laughs, it was the ultimate summer celebration.

Thanks for choosing Seacoast Boat Charters to help make the day special — cheers to many more birthdays on the water! ⚓️☀️

Had a great charter this weekend with six wonderful ladies! We cruised out to the Isle of Shoals and the historic Wood Island Life Saving Station, and along the way spotted a juvenile mola mola (sunfish) — about 100 pounds or so. Even after decades on the water, seeing marine wildlife like this (and the seals we passed too!) never gets old. So cool.

We had the honor of hosting something truly special aboard the MV Sara Rose last week. Local couple Shawn and Katie-Mae set out for what she believed was just a scenic cruise… but with a little help from us — and a message in a bottle — it became so much more.

As we cruised the serene waterways of Kittery Point, Portsmouth, and New Castle, they enjoyed drinks and a delightful spread while they took in the coastal views. We docked at the Wood Island Life Saving Station — fully restored to its historical exactness — where Shawn led Katie-Mae to the cupola overlooking the water… and proposed. 💙 She said yes!

A heartfelt thank you to Laura Calhoun, Executive Director, and Sam Reid, President of the Wood Island Life Saving Station, for graciously opening the station and making this incredible moment possible.

It was an unforgettable cruise — and the beginning of a lifetime together.

Summer is not officially over! But it is starting to feel that way with the air drying out, the cooler morning and kids going back to school. But what a weather season this has been!

I've been extremely fortunate to have met nearly 100 folks this summer that have joined me for cruises on the Sara Rose. We cruised the Isle of Shoals, the Piscataqua River, Great Bay and other local waterways. During these cruises we spread the ashes of a loved one offshore, we saw porpoises, whales, basking sharks, seals and a whole variety of birds including bald eagles. We had families with kids of all ages jumping off the boat, paddling the paddle board, catching hermit crabs and playing on the beach. We also had those that just wanted to relax with some music, drinks and the serenity that comes with being on the water.

At times during these cruises we discussed the rich and fascinating local history.

It's just been great and I'm extremely thankful to all that have entrusted me as their Captain. We will be running a handful of more cruises through September and Fall Foliage cruises through October before the Sara Rose goes to ‘the hard’ for winter maintenance and hibernation.

I truly appreciate meeting all the folks that came aboard this year and I hope to see you again next year and meet some new folks as well.

What an incredible run of cruises this past weekend. I get to meet somebody incredible and fun people. It really is an honor and a pleasure taking them in the Sara Rose to share the beauty of the Seacoast. Within the last 5 days we had several cruises including locals taking friends out from Michigan, a wonderful family from Florida with 8 and 10 year old boys, a couple from North Carolina and another couple from from Salem NH. Each trip customized to their preferences. I can't wait to have them all back aboard next year.

Just had a wonderful couple onboard celebrating their anniversary. We picked up a couple of lobster rolls at Morrison's Lobsters (they said they were fantastic with lots of meat). The weather wasn't conducive to going to the Isle of Shoals, so we 'adapted and overcame' (my Dad and Uncle were Marines, and I heard that a lot!). We had a beautiful cruise up the Piscataqua and eventually into Great Bay where they saw some wildlife, listen to some of their favorite music, enjoyed food and drink, and just took in the beauty of Great Bay. I was really pleased that they are interested in doing a fall foliage tripnthis fall!!

What a splendid cruise today with a wonderful couple visiting from FL along with their super cute dog Emma. They are staying at the Wentworh Hotel so all they had to do is walk down the steps to the boat. It was Emma's first time on a boat and she loved it. After a quick tour inshore we shot out to the Isle of Shoals where they took a short walk and explored the Oceana Hotel. We got really close to some huge seals at Duck Island too. They expressed interest in coming back for a Fall Foliage trip! I'd love to have then back aboard the Sara Rose!!

Last Friday, 3 gentleman, friends from growing up in PA came aboard the Sara Rose. Despite the on and off rain, we enjoyed an inshore cruise. One gentleman really wanted to catch a striper and we checked that box too. Great day with a great crew!!

Well hopefully Saturday was the last day with snow on the decks! Sara and I continued to break in the new engines. Along the way we took a few photos and videos including the 75 foot Whaleback Lighthouse that marks the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor and the beautifully restored Wood Island Life Saving Station (https://woodislandlifesaving.org).
